Man of Steel, Players’ Player of the Year, Rugby League Writers’ Player of the Year. 2 Lance Todds, and 1 Harry Sunderland.
Not a bad choice for captain, will do for me!
I'm sure there's a Wigan player who can match these meagre awards for such a mediocre player, Rogues? Maybe not
Nice one Saint!
Not that Rogues is troubled by such things as facts. (And I'm sure there was a Wiganer in 1983 or something who won a Challenge Cup medal who was a far, far better fullback than Wello!)

Now now rogues - can't you wait until the season starts. He may not be as fast as some but he makes up for it in brain power. There is no better full back in SL than Wello at the moment. Running fast is helpful but you need a rugby brain to achieve being a good one. In that dept. we have Wello.

| If you had a choice for 2011 of Paul Wellens, Sam Tomkins, Pat Richards or Amos Roberts, who would you chose?

| I think Paul Wellens would be the most suitable candidate, although some posters on this thread seemed to have derailed it towards a fullback peeing contest. Although if they all want to come to Saints they could be part of the captaincy 'team'!

You've had one good season?
Wellens has done more in the game than those lot put together. He's the best defender out of those lot, he's the most safe under the high ball still. even though the pace he had as a youth has gone he is a total natural rugby player and still quality! And that's from a Leeds fan.
Roberts apart from 10 good games has been gash. Richards has been a good winger and nothing more. He had 1 awesome season last year but wellens has had plenty of them. Tomkins no doubt has bags of talent but looked all at sea down under and can't defend the goal line for toffee.
They all have different attributes but Wellens is still as good as any of those as a fullback if not better.

Brent Webb or Lee smith before those Wigan 3 and bjb before Roberts and Richards.
Tomkins isn't a fullback really he's a six. maguire just has to hide him there because he is weak link in defence. As good as he is he still has plenty to work on.

Are we talking about Amos "two good months in his Wigan career" Roberts who couldn't get out of your reserves come the end of last year?
Pat Richards a better fullback than Wellens?!
Give me a break.
If Tomkins achieves as much in his career as Paul Wellens has, he'll have had a stellar time in RL.
Wellens is the obvious choice as captain for Saints in 2011, regardless of how fast or slow Wigan fans may think he is.
I'm very much looking forward to Saints facing Wigan with a decent squad out and blowing their invincibility complex apart in 2011.

Sam Tomkins is clearly a stand off. Pat Richards is a winger. Amos Roberts is one part Jason Robinson, nine parts Leon Felton.
So, obviously, Paul Wellens.

| Paul Wellens for me- short term
Might take a punt on Sam but he isn't really a full back. Good breaks and quick, but his defence is shocking.
I am happy with B. Hodgeson next year though. Think he can add a lot.

| If Paul Wellens is too slow for a fullback,it didn't stop him scoring 4 tries in one match against Wigan.
Wellens would be an ideal choice for captain.Has experience, respect and most importantly,is on the field for 80 mins

| Wello for me. No pace but more than makes up for that with his positional sense and he is still the number one bomb disposal.
