Potter is using a few players in the wrong way. I don't think he knows what to do.

That's what I'm saying! Tony p is a prop and a good one at that.

The problem is definitely with the backs. We have a slow full back, slow wingers, a 2nd rower at Centre and a half back who hasn't played well for a year.'"
Nail on the head. I don't think Flannery is worth a quota spot, but besides that we are good in most other areas.
I was a bit gutted when we didn't sign a monstrous, no-nonsense prop but if I had to choose between one and a new stadium I know which one I'd choose.

Singings? OH you mean signings.
I'm a bit biased towards Legohead but even the Flanno-bashers may admit that calling him "one of our worst singings/signings" is a bit harsh.
He put points on the board on Saturday night, which is more than 90% of the side he was playing in did.

| Quote: St pete "Flannery will always work hard and give 100% but he's just not good enough in a pack like we have. The backrow IMO is very very poor.
Flannery, wilkin, ashurst, dixon, clough and tony p are the backrows but none are good enough. Tony p is a good player but IMO will never make a 2nd row or loose as long as he lives.
All the backrow named above all work hard but we get nothing from them in attack.'"
Thank you.

| I agree with Saddened. I'll be happy with top 6 this year, if Friday is anything to go by.
Flannery works hard but still one Aussie too many

Is that one still on the pitch that the disgruntled wire fan threw on as he stormed out of a Saints wire game in disgust?

| Tony P [iis[/i a second rower, and I thought he had his better games for us last year in the back row. Unfortunately there isn't enough grunt in the pack and I think he'd be better utilised in the front row at this moment in time. I'd also move Soliola in the pack and play Wheeler at centre, but I thought that before Saturday.
Fozzard was a desperate signing really, we needed another body at prop, but who was available? How many clubs have signed good props this year? There's a dearth of good props available in the game, even the NRL. Would Wests have given a player who'd barely played in SL for two years a contract if there were other options? It's ok saying we should have signed someone else, but who was there to sign? No one, especially not one we could afford.
Flannery for me has not performed and has not been a good signing. He came with a big reputation after having played SOO, but for me hasn't offered anything Bennett didn't and has probably come in at twice the cost (at least). I'd agree with him being a waste of a quota spot, he's similar to Hooper for me in that if he was English I'd have no real problem with him being a squad man, but he's not and I expect more of imports.
Pryce also needs to step up to the plate, can he do it? The jury's out for me, I didn't think he was as bad last year as some made out, but this is a big year for him to shoulder some responsibility. I still don't think a half back combination of Eastmond and Wheeler is experienced enough to drive this team round the pitch, and may do them more harm than good expecting them to. Perhaps drop Moore to half back and play him and Eastmond? Bring Smith back and use him? Not Wilkin though, he's not good enough for half back and is too inconsistent in his kicking to be doing it too often.
On Long, I wonder if he'll play as well as he did again this season. He had a point to prove on Saturday, let's see if he can keep that level up for a full season, because he didn't for us for the last two years.

| With regards to Leon, he never really nailed down the stand-off spot at Bradford when he was given the chance in 2003 and we (Bradford) won everything that year. He only plays well when his pack is going forwards and he has another half to do the directing of play. He's a broken field/line runner, not an organiser or play maker.
With the exception of Leeds (their time will come) most sides/squads are starting to level out. You're starting to go through what we at Bradford did about 4 years ago with the great side you have had starting to break up but not replacing them with players of equal stature / quality.
You can't replace people like Scully and Long who were the fulcrum of everything you did (and world class players to boot) with kids like Eastmond, however much promise they have.
If Saturday was anything to go buy, get ready for not only a long season, but a long couple of years. The Warringtons and Huddersfields of our world are likely to get their moments in the sun a bit more often.

Look, the '80's seems to be in vogue at the moment so we at Saints should show we are at the forefront of revivals and play like we did back then.

| I think Hull beat us on the edges, not up the middle. There's something there about organisation and understanding, not necessarily skill, size or speed.
And to echo what's been said on many threads: Hull were phenomenal, we didn't give it to them.
