| Quote: Jen_n_Nay "after the try was given - Bentham justified the decision by saying both Smiths feet were behind McGuires?? '" if you gonna post, post the truth! What you have put here is wrong. Bentham said lee smiths feet were behind the ball. Which is the rule. Not mcguires standing foot, not his kicking foot, but the ball.
get it right it's there for all to hear.

| Quote: Jen_n_Nay "But, after the try was given - Bentham justified the decision by saying both Smiths feet were behind McGuires?? Which they weren't!
But I'll repeat again, the best team won!
He actually said that they were behind the ball - not Maguires feet - hence the reason for this thread.
And yes the best team did win

| Quote: St. Etrigan "So my guess is that nobody actually knows the answer to my question and once again a thread starts to drop into chaos.
My faith in the players knowing the actual rule is slightly higher than the TV commentators but I wouldnt be risking any money on either of their answers. The ref should have been able to make the right decision - I am quite happy if that is the case - but the fact that I cannot find any reference to it in the rule book - and it seems nobody else can either - makes me wonder if it is simply an interpretation - I would have thought that something as obvious as which 2 reference points to judge an offside decision against would not be left to interpretation.
Anyway thanks for the help the ones of you who gave it but it seems clear to me that none of us actually know the answer. I have sent an e-mail to Stuart Cummins to see if he can help - If I get a reply I will let you know.'"

| For me it was offside. However it was that close it could have gone either way. The way I look at it, if there hadn't have been a video ref at the game Ganson would have given it so it would've had the same outcome.

I cant believe all Saints fans are this stupid
You do realise that at a full gallop so to speak both feet will leave the ground at some stage...watch the top class sprinters in Slo Mo

| Come on please, you lost and would still have done without the try! if we looked at changing rules and tightening them every time a team feels something went wrong we would be in a mess as a game!

Smith does look offside but the purlple line should be parallel to the white one showing it was much closer than that

| forgetting the line, all you have to do is look how far he is, compared to the kicker, away from the line behind them.

| looking at those two pictures someone must have photo-shoped Smiths position. Every other player is in the same spot on the pitch with the same body angle except Smith who seems to be quite far back in the second. Also agree on the purple line. Its not a parrallel line and therefore can not be used to judge.
For me it was offside. I was always taught that the back foot was the offside line (on all aspects of the game ) not the kicking foot or the ball. Academic i know but leaves a bitter taste when you think it was the deciding factor

That isn't what cummings is saying who you selectively quote on other threads.
