The new young dynasty of super saints is coming to a ground near you. Welsby-Dodd-Simms-Eaves-Rizzelli, not Eastmond...the future is coming.:Dwarfs, Gnomes, Halflings/GNOME2.JPG

Quote: Magic Superbeetle "Things like Amors injury is just unavoidable, but i am starting to raise more and more questions about our conditioning and physio team (and more generally the backroom staff) - brown has come under fire recently, but he does seem to be let down by his backroom staff. When you look at the condition of our players, we seem to be constantly facing an uphill battle against the likes of Wigan and Leeds. Whether it's more backroom staff needed, linking up with a sports science university like Leeds, or an entire rethink of how we condition our players, I feel like something needs to change.

We haven't seemed to be capable of competing physically since Apollo left, and are getting more and more injuries. Not just niggles, but that's now 4 senior players out long term from the last few weeks.'"

I questioned this last year when we had an horrendous injury crisis just after a couple of games which we never really recovered going into the play offs.
Look at Mose who doesn,t look as though he is being conditioned to be that tough impact player that played in the NRL and world cup, worse than that was Josh Perry the backroom staff never got him fit for more than 2 games, walmsley and Percival are getting injury prone.
Is it possible that our lack of intensity means we are receiving more impact on our player in both attack and defence, our line speed is very poor meaning they are getting hit with momentum is it this that is causing injury.

Watch LMS have a blinder against poor London, now.

I assume well see Savelio get another run out. I would try and get him 1st team ready for the playoffs.

We need to sort out the 6 shirt. Wheeler will never be fit - EVER. Wilkin and Hohaia are too limited, but chaninging it every week is perhaps the biggest problem.
Get Charnock playing. We've seen that he's looked physically capable and he's been almost selected so many tyimes they must think he's alright.

Wilkin can get back in the pack and Hohaia to the bench as an interchange hooker - these two moves would see the workload on Robes reduced significantly, and we may see his spark return.

Do you go for Savelio playing prop? Or try and get him playing second row, like he does in the academy? The former would be more than possible imo, albeit in short bursts (and tbh we have enough of that type of prop!)

If we don't see charnock in the next few weeks, I can't see him breaking through under brown - him not playing over Easter is a worrying indicator for me, given it's his last year of being eligible for the 19s iirc.

Hohaia on the bench (if fit, Fozard if not) would be sensible given the opposition ... But you just can't ever second guess browns selection process. It amazes me that as fans 90% of us can see Roby is being massively over worked and has suffered over the last few weeks as a result! yet! Cunningham and brown don't do anything to rectify it.

Wilkin is a bug bear of mine at the minute, I'd keep him on the sidelines this week. Lms should be kept as far away as possible from the front row. Wheeler should be written off.

Savelio looks a bit short on agility for second row, to me. IMO he's an awesome SL prop waiting to happen.

His power & strength is unreal for such a young lad.

Could he play that 13 (prop) role ?

I don't see why not - having him, Walmsley and Amor on the in the middle at the same time would be something to behold.

Amor Roby Walmsley
Soliola Greenwood
Savelio

Would be a great starting pack next year! And nail down how we want to play as a pack! My only question is his fitness - to play 13 he'd need to play longer minutes than an impact prop and it's something he's struggled with so far (obviously not an encompassing opinion given he's only played 2 games!) does he play longer minutes for the academy?

Certainly a lot more go forward there than we currently have.

Completely agree, he may have been a 2nd row when he was younger, but his size and trength now is all prop

I kinda see his as a back row, as that what he's been for the kids.
He may look a little static to defend out wide. He may also lack the ability to do long minutes.

A "heavy 13" for me, perhaps interchnangeing him with Many for maximum effect.

I worry that if you want him to be a prop, you're still short of a solid minutes man. Perhapssomeoneli,e Weyman instead of Masoe would havebeen The better choice.

Well it's just got a lot bigger ...

www.saintsrlfc.com/news/page/4002?

SAINTS Chairman, Eamonn McManus, wrote in the Manchester Evening News today:

I must admit that the recent defeats by Wigan and Leeds were as upsetting to me personally as anything I've experienced in the fourteen years of my very proud chairmanship of the Saints.

It was the manner and timing of our defeats that hurt so much. We just seemed to be out-enthused as much as outplayed. Prior to that we had played so well and fought hard in nine consecutive victories since the season started. But the Wigan and Leeds games were of much greater importance being against our bitter rivals and required our game to be raised further. We didn't do that which is why it is so difficult to deal with - but deal with it we absolutely must!

Although I am a lifelong Saints fan and rugby league nut, which is the only reason I'm involved in the sport, it is always essential that I carry out my role as Chairman in a dignified and professional manner. I am always conscious that I am a senior standard bearer of my club, my sport and my town. After very game I visit the dressing room briefly to shake the hand of every player in congratulation or in commiseration and likewise with the coaching staff. I never offer a view or opinion at that time as emotions are often running too high, or too low. And more importantly, I totally believe that THAT must be the job and the domain of the coach whose authority must be absolute at all times over players.

So, what I do is wait for a couple of days and then meet up over a coffee with our coach Nathan Brown and our CEO Mike Rush to have a clear- headed debrief in the cold light of day and to plan ahead. Although I must admit that this time my head is still not quite clear!

We now have a fabulous and plush new stadium at St. Helens as well as world class training facilities - a far cry from the very basic environment of Knowsley Road which produced generations of warrior athletes who have gone down in rugby league history. It was said of the British navy at the end of the Nineteenth century that iron men in wooden boats were replaced by wooden men in iron boats. It's my job to ensure that this doesn't now happen to us after the move from Knowsley Road to Langtree Park.

As disappointing as this very short period has been, I firmly believe we have the talent and the will to win the main prize of Super League - the Grand Final. We have to grind our way through the next five months and then raise our game to the required heights in the play offs. It is all about mindset and timing. The key to success now is that we learn all we can from these recent defeats and ensure that, when it really counts, we perform better and at a higher level.

A win against London Broncos tonight would be the first small step in that process and I'm sure that our fans will continue to get behind us in the brilliant way that they have all this season.

Success is not final; failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. (Winston Churchill):d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_40218.jpg

I'm not sure it does really. There is a hint of a threat to the players and possibly the coach too, depending on who he considers 'the men' to be - but other than that the article just looks like this year's version of what he did last year: namely, make an attempt to keep fans onside when things have gone west. McManus is very eloquent in print but he rarely says anything substantive. To do so would be to contradict his own statement that he is professional, etc.
