| Quote: Rogues Gallery "With Mo in charge, 26,000 for England v PNG, we can't get that now v the Aussies.
The WCC, now a much sought after fixture by the RFL, in 1987 they didn't want to know.
The Grand final/ play off concept, who brought that in?
The salary cap, who brought that in?
Nigel Wood or Maurice Lindsay?
No contest.'"
His connection with Wigan and then as an RFL chief was unhealthy to say the least.
He left his mark on your club and on the game lets be fair...although I think he did damage we will never fully understand.
Lets not forget He seriously thought a Wires Widnes Merger was a good idea also a Wakfield Castleford Merger too. But never considered a Leigh Wigan Merger and thats what will always make him look as honest and fair as Maradonna to non Wigan fans.
I didnt like the way he lorded up the GB team with its stack full of Wigan players casually saying "although Gary connolly was still a Saints player we had signed him so we counted him as one of ours" how can you not Spew at that.....?
I wish him all the best in football, but the game of Rugby League has now moved on and for the better

But he was no different than any of us. He drank just as much as me and the lads, he wasn't in more trouble than me or mates, he was just a normal young lad.
Anything he did got blown out of proportion big time as you'll see him say next week.
He liked a beer but it never ever effected the way he played or trained. He trained harder than any player I've seen.
He's a good bloke but People beleive what they hear and read to much.

I don't know much about him and heard all the rumours but from watching the show on Thursday he came across very well.
He's a self made man from working class background who did a awesome job for the pies and then was the driving force for super league and summer rugby.
Nobody can say super league hasn't been a great success.
On the subject of summer rugby, he spoke about kids can't learn much on cold , wet, windy days/nights yet kids rugby is still played in the winter.

-A disagreement between him and Alan Hunte led to huntey's transfer to hull and some fisticufts.
-He had a fight with Chris Joynt in the changing rooms at odsal before a match, in which Joynt inexplicably started on the bench.
-Andy Northey beat him up.
All of which were from rumour type sources and had little to back them up and none of them involved drink.

I believe that is being changed, there was a vote last week for the amateurs to go to a summer season. and I presume that will include junior RL.
One of the things that Mo tried but failed was to align the RFL and BARLA.

BARLA needs to be dissolved, its full of self important little men ruling they're own little kingdom and not helping the game as a whole.
That of course is a generalisation, there are many thousands of people who give their time willingly to help our game.

| I remember speaking to Goulding at Wigan, well after he had left. He said than that his biggest regret was his balls up at Leeds,as he loved it there.
He is a great lad to have a chat with, but seemed to press the self destruct button wherever he went.

I'm not going to pass comment on the joynt rumour as I know nothing of it.
I know what the rumours are regarding hunte and maybe the was a falling out but I'll say 100% that it wasn't racial as suggested.

He loved his time at saints and often told us he's was an adopted saint. His best times was at saints. He was on cloud nine lifting that cup at Knowsley road after the Warrington game when we was crowned super league champs for the first time.
On the subject of kids playing summer rugby, it's a no brainer that it would help develop the kids games.

This part worried me.
He said " Although Connolly was halfway between Wigan and St Helens, we had him as a Wigan player that night."
Now correct me if I'm wrong, but that Test match at Princes Park was played in June 1992. Connolly played another full season with Saints, and only "officially" signed with Wigan in August 1993, making his debut in September 1993.
Is Lindsay admitting that Connolly had been tapped up over a year before and was committed to Wigan by the summer of 1992 ?
