I would agree with the comments about holding down at the tackle. Much of the Huddersfield defence this season was based on 3-4 men 'wrestle type' tackles followed by each man then slowly taking turns rolling off the tackled player, thus allowing the defence to re-form. Referees seem prepared to allow teams to do this rather than go for quick play the balls.

Quote: GCM1980 "The biggest problem with Super League compared to 3 or 4 years ago, is that it has lost alot of it's traditionally big, exciting games. It used to be that any match involving two of Leeds, Bradford, Wigan and Saints was a must watch. Because of the downward spiral of Bradford and to a lesser extent Wigan (who are recovering somewhat in the last couple of years) this is no longer the case. Only Saints v Leeds has a real edge to it now.

Once you get past needing Sky Sports hype to convince you that a game has been, or is likely to be a 'classic' then there are still plenty of entertaining games to be had, but they don't have the backdrop of a firecracker atmosphere adding to the experience that they once had when the above mentioned teams made up the top 4 every year.'"

very good points you make, i would never want a return to playing leeds 4 times a season.. my point is genuinely about the standard of superleague, and the quality of matches.. another poster states about the situation with regards to huddersfield, our matches against them have been close, but boring as hell..

with all the leeds fans saying 'it's so saints have more of a chance' with the pace in leeds outside backs, a quicker play of the ball would probably make them a better team anyway..

the petition was not a way of making superleague better for saints, but for more attacking play throughout the league

All too often we are seeing tries scored by building of pressure, and tries from within 10 yards, or attacking kicks

And .......

There a problem with that ? If you don't want to see tries scored like that go watch football instead.. muppet .

I'd rather see free flowing, length of the field tries and I'm sure most people would. The flair seems have to have gone from most teams and this has been gradually happening for the last 3 or 4 years now, the speed of the game is extremely slow. Catalans were the only team to bring any entertainment to the Play Offs IMO.

a quick ptb doesn't develop the game! Teams, esecially halfbacks don't learn how to brake down defences! teams and players will become better! ultimately the game will improve! That's the idea anyway imo!

The RFL had the right idea, they just did it wrong. The PTB speed is [itoo[/i slow and the skill level has gone down. Most teams seem to rely on brute force moreso than they ever did.

now we've got all that fun and games from earlier out the way, you now make sense.. i have no doubt that is the reason why the rugby league are doing it, but is it worth losing 35 weeks of the regular season, for the sake off possibly competing on the international stage..

from what i have heard, the NRL has once again sped up the play the balls, and is far more entertaining than superleague

I must have missed them in the Grand Final. Apart from the odd few, I didn't see that many on the TV games I saw Leeds in either.

yes the nrl is much quicker! Their game was a lot slower than ours is now! the 2 ref system brings it's own problems but has made there game more entertaining.

off the top of my head

hull kr away
Wigan at home
hull kr at home
Catalan at the magic
Catalan play off's
Huddersfield at home
Bradford at home
castleford at home
hull kr n the play offs
hull fc away
Celtic away
Quins away

but I accept that there arnt as many as previous but I don't think that is a bad thing. I do think teams ate getting better and the comp is tighter!

I'm not trolling when I say this but I can see how it would be frustrating for saints fans as you seem to lack the ability to go the length of the field. as has been said in this thread already, most teams will feel they have a chance of beating you if they can kick deep into your half and keep the pens down.

Why would slowing the PTB down reduce the skill in Rugby League? I'm interested to know. Genuinely.

Because, just playing Devil's advocate here, but if you make it too [ieasy[/i to make metres from a constantly retreating defensive line, wouldn't that vastly reduce the skill in the game?

Perhaps you could petition the RFL to stop it raining in October?
