I was watching Soccer AM on Saturday morning and they visited FC Schalke's stadium in Germany and they have a retractable pitch which is moved outside of the stadium after a match to allow the air to get to it and then it is rolled back in the day before a game.
I doubt they'd go to so much trouble if there wasn't something in it? It has a roof the stadium, but I think that opens and closes like the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

The is one in the NFL which slides out the stadium as it has a roof on it.
Maybe FC Schalke have a bigger stadium which shades the pitch?
Let's be honest, Langtree isn't in the same league as these stadiums. Langtree pitch has no problems with the roof stands shading any of the pitch. In fact, the roof barely covers the seats never mind the pitch.
IMO the reason it was left open was financial reasons. When it came apparent the was health & Safety issues and fans wasn't happy with getting drenched the club had to act and righty so.

| Some people are never happy :/ you spend 20 million, through a recession on a new stadium, it doesn't have cladding which must be financial, they spend 800,000 to put on the cladding they didn't fill in the corners which must be financial - never mind we spent a transfer fee for the first time in years,, or you know, actually built a stadium by the club for the club and owned by the club, we must be in financial crisis! They must be cheap skating!
Whether or not saints stadium is in the same league as shalke, your garden fence is also out of the saints stadiums league - and FYI, air unable to move in big structures does cause issues. Whether or not this is the case I don't know, whether it's because of air flow, or because they'd have to completely restructure the corners, which what I was told at the time and haven't actually seen anything suggesting anything else since,, or in fact any other reason - IT SHOULDN'T MATTER - why not just be grateful for our new home for the next 100 years potentially?

| Quote: St pete "A obvious little swipe at me
Not you specifically tbh there are a few on here who would still be complaining if we had won everything for the last ten years, built a stadium to compete with the nou camp, had attendances to match, McManus had been confirmed as the second coming of Christ by the Vatican and for every season ticket you got £500! As I said some people are never happy
Air flows a tricky thing as a) it affects so much how the grass grows (and we have always seemed to have the pitch quality as a priority - we laid the pitch and built the stadium around it remember) - and b) if the air can't move it can create micro currents around the stadium etc - whilst there are bigger stadiums I imagine it would be a issue (though not the issue)
For now I'm more than happy to accept the corners aren't structurally able to hold the cladding (after all parts are walls!)

I was just making the point, I'm not moaning about the corners left open (I'm nice and warm in the box haha) it's just be interesting to know if the "air flow " thing is a genuine claim.

I had a little walk round the stadium today (mixing with the riff raff) and didn't see any water in the bar areas at all like I'd seen before the cladding went up, so looks like the cladding has solved that problem.
I was sat in the box in the south stand but noticed the ends of the north stand is still open to the elements as the cladding is only about half way down which isn't good if you have to sit there.
While mixing with the common people, I did notice the queues was massive in the bar areas!

Not sure about that but it looked like nobody was serving when I looked and the queue was massive.
