Wheeler is one of those players people pick up on from his academy performances but in 2 or 3 YEARS he has only had one or two games (Huddersfield away a couple of years ago for example) where he has done anything to warrant his reputation and that suggest he has the potential to be a regular at Saints.
This season really is last chance saloon for Mr Wheeler. He's out of contract at the end of the season I believe and he'll have to do something to get another one.'"
as ever you put down our players, Wheeler has been brilliant when he's played for us, the obvious problem is that that hasnt been very often, and to that end your final sentence does apply

Saints may be behind at half time but wheeler has looked dangerous every time he has touched the ball, cracking 40 minutes from him. Hohaia also looks really dangerous which is something we lacked for the last couple of years. Let's turn it into points in the second half

| Wheeler was solid in defence and blistering with ball in hand. If he gets the ball in space watch out.
First time seeing Lance play tonight. Was that typical lance? He does a hell of a lot of running but does not seam to go anywhere. Lots of sideways running on kick returns. If that's him at FB, then I can see why Royce thinks when Wellens is fit he is straight back into number 1 FB spot.
I'll give benefit of doubt, but along with Perry no sure if he was a best buy. It maybe settling in, but I see no reason why he will keep Wellens from FB, or why he will keep Gaskell from half back.
He had one good run from FB, but wellens is just as evasive and actually runs the ball in everytime, at one point I think the whole crowd just shouted 'run' at him as he caught the ball and had a think about going sideways to look for a winger.
There was another point where he ran across the attacking line, but ran so far he over ran the gap that was gapping for him to run through and just left makinson or wheeler with the ball and 2 or 3 salford players coming across to clatter them.
I'm not anti import as La frank seams decent and Sia was my MOM.

1378.jpg Hello again:1378.jpg |
|
| If we're doing scores on the doors...
Hohaia 5 (busy but mostly ineffectual, too keen to pass when returning kicks)
Gardner 6 (decent workrate & had to cover Meli's brainfarts, but no threat with ball in hand)
Meli 4 (can look good at times when attacking but all over the place in defence)
Wheeler 7 (one of few players to shine in 1st half, looked a class act, faded a bit in 2nd but always busy)
Makinson 6 (solid game, some flashes of good play - especially defence when offering the outside)
Lomax 6 (tried hard, but too often didn't make things tick. Improved in 2nd half)
Gaskell 7 (as with Lomax, came more and more into the game after the break. Some class touches)
Laffranchi 6 (another who struggled in the 1st half, but looked much improved in his later spells)
Roby, 8 (drove the team on and grew better and better)
Puletua, 6 (involved a lot when on, but lacking spark and very few offloads)
Soliola, 7 (some big hit-ups, but drifted in and out of game, especially in 1st half, and missed some tackles)
Flannery 3 (added nothing to the team, looks even slower)
Wilkin 5 (not much came off and too easy to put down)
Perry 4 (poor 1st half, but offered more later, before tiring. Needs to get fit)
Clough 6 (added pace to a lumbering pack when came on)
Dixon 8 (another who helped the team spark into life when came on & took tries well)
Ashe
Overall, both teams were unrecognisable in the 2nd half compared to their 1st half showing. Salford were hugely unlicky to go in just 10-4 up (Soliola lucky to get given BotD, and the Salford disallowed try could easily have been given) and a bigger differential may have led Saints to panic a bit, leading to a different end result.
Lots of work to do IMO.

If you get a chance to watch it back on TV, Sia try is much more straight forward. At the ground I could not see his hand on the ball but on the TV it was a much clearer picture, as was the fresh air between makinson and the ball. Thought that was a try at the ground. The dixon save was brill, not sure if he knew where his hand was but he got it right in the correct position to stop it touching the ground.

I also don't have an agenda. I have since watched the TV coverage and maybe I was slightly harsh, but that does not mean Gaskell does not have a greedy streak. I have a problem with any player who thinks more of personal glory than the team.

Gaskell thinks more of personal glory than the team? On what do you base that silly accusation? The fact that he didn't look to the right? Couldn't it just have been that he, er, forgot to look to his right as he was distracted by defenders to his left?
Nah, course not. He has to be an evil greedy player who is only in this for his personal glory!

Eh ?????
Have I missed some Tweets or something, is Gaskell sledging the team or something. All I see is a guy trying to play RL.

Your views on him are nonsensical.
