Devastating news, no words can describe Steve Prescott as a man. A true inspiration to many and he will be sadly missed.

Terribly sad news. Hard to take in even though we knew this day would come.

Heard this earlier today, although i knew he had cancer and had been battling for years the news really shocked me, i had no idea he was so ill..RIP Steve, a true saint in every sense of the word, i also thought the applause during the proposed silence was very fitting and brought a tear to my eye..

What an absolute legend. I was delighted to see the minute's silence turn into a minute's applause at today's match. That was such a more fitting recognition of Prekkie's incredible achievements.

Steve Prescott was, and is the true spirit of what it should be to be an Englishman. There will be many a glass raised to him in the bars of this country and in Heaven as well today. Rest with the greats mate!

Desperately sad news. We always knew that this day would come but it doesn't make it any easier to take. He was an inspiration to every single one of us and we can all take something out of the way he lived his life. Fought his illness to the very end end and didn't give in no matter how tough it got. Steve was a true Man of Steel in every sense. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends who will hopefully be safe in the knowledge that they he was a true fighter who beat the odds time and time again. The town of St Helens couldn't be prouder of him.

Rest in piece, Steve. Gone but never forgotten.

I met him only a couple of times but what a humble man he was.
