Wilkin is best used as an options player rather than playmaker. He overcooks his kicks and doesn't have a range of passing but the sheer fact he is near the ball makes the defence doubt what will happen which leads to breaks and tries for others. (Okay, long winded way of saying he runs good lines). None of that applied to Mike Bennett (lovely bloke btw).

No way the defence doubt anything when wilkin gets the ball. He has nothing to put doubt in the other teams mind.
