I've said for a while we need someone of Cayless's '05/'06 vintage to replace him with, if this can be done I'll be very happy, if not we're not going to really struggle either.

Cap space is what I'm worried about.

We went into this season with around £100k to spare (IIRC).

Cayless is as good as off, Long is gone. We have reward some promising juniors, but I would imagine we will still have a massive amount of space to fill should a top draw prop come forward.

Frodsham and Emmitt are still largely unproven, although I like the looks of Emmitt more. I don't like the idea of Clough stepping up to the front row as much.

IF we can squeeze a top draw grafter like Cayless, or a complete ogre like O'Meley, we should.

I just think a good, heavy, above average SL prop would do us wonders, and not cost the earth. I like the look of Griffin at Hudds (or I'd even take Mace the Ace back).

Gids will be on slightly less cash i imagine, minus longy, minus JC and possibly minus KC, but plus Soliola , plus scott moore (less than KC i'd hope)and some contract upgrades for the kids, we should have plenty left.

Does this also spell the end of Gilmour's saints career? we have loads of back rowers and now 2 defined centres. I can't see a place for him next year.

Unexpected great news! I'd pretty much resigned myself to losing Gidley so it's almost as good as a new signing.

I know I'm hoping for a bit too much but if we could swing a decent prop (he needn't be a big name - just someone big and dependable) and keep Gilmour we'd begin next season with one of the strongest Saints squads ever.
