| This isnt a knee jerk reaction but I saw these performances coming way before the Four Nations started. The coaching of the England National side is very poor led by a very poor Head Coach in Steve McNamara. I can not for the life of me think why the RFL would appoint a Head Coach that has won NO major trophies and has sent the Bradford Bulls backwards since the day he was appointed as there Coach.
The Squad he chose wasnt right in the first place. Why on earth wasnt Martin Gleeson on that plane??? He played out of his skin the last few weeks of the season and was overlooked why???? Our last tackle kicks where nothing short of dreadful, We very rarely openend up and played some attacking expansive Rugby. Defensively we where shocking and the amount of errors we made I wouldnt expect of a Under 8's side.
Unfortunatley Steve McNamara wont be sacked after one tour down under but if this is repeated next year he has to go. 9 times out of 10 we are poor when we play in Australia/New Zealand Down Under but this is taking it to a new level.
Some of the lads where saying to me losing Adrian Morley and Jamie Peacock is devasting. To which I do agree but in 2 or 3 years time at the very most they wont be around to play for England. Our only World Class front row forwards after Morley and Peacock are James Graham and Sam Burgess after that the chioce is quite frankly shocking with the possible exception of Fielden who was average at best the last couple of weeks.
The backs with the exception of Sam Tomkins are again woeful. Kyle Eastmond will be back in the squad next winter injuries permitting but from 1-5 we have genuinely no World Class talent available. We will always struggle to beat Australia and the Kiwis until we get a Head Coach who is hugely experienced, a coaching staff who know how to coach defensively and offensively. Why dont we get ex players like Paul Sculthorpe involved with the National Team????
All the RFL did this year was send a very poor coach and a hugely inexperienced squad down under and expected them to win the Tournament. It was never going to happen in a million years.

I think one comment answers another if you're talking about England, unless you think a Leeds side that got within a game of the GF and to a Challenge Cup final was terrible, in which case I'd question your intelligence. Leeds players are used to playing in higher intensity games on a more regular basis, in a few years I think we'll be adding Warrington and Huddersfield players to that list if things continue as they are doing.
Ben Westwood is an average workhorse who tends to make mistakes when the pressure is on. He has taken that to International level, which is more than some supposed better players do, but he's still limited as a player. He did have a decent game though, as he has done in almost all his International caps. I think Joel Tomkins, for example, found the step up a big one.
All in all, lets also not forget that this was a second string selection. Peacock and Morley make this pack far better, Eastmond, Shenton, Pryce, McGuire and even Sinfield at 6 make the back line look far better. If we'd gone into a game against the Aussies 10 years ago with 6 or 7 first choice team members missing we'd have been a lot worse off than a few dodgy refereeing decisions.

That is not what the poster said. He said 'Why don't we get players like Scully INVOLVED with the National Team' not be the International Coach.

Unbelieavble! The referee and video referee only gifted them three tries, what more do they want?

Peacock, McGuire and Luke Burgess would of almost certainly been in the 17 if they were fit. The fact Leeds had no players there isn't representative of their squad. Their English 'stars' were injured. They certainly would have brought a positive impact to the team if they had been playing.

If Scully wants to be involved in coaching at International level he'd be best learning the ropes at club level in some capacity first.

He could be involved in a mentor capacity. Been there, done that got the t-shirt kind of roll. He undoubtedly has a lot of valuable knowledge he could pass on.

agree on the first two, but i dont think luke burgess would ever get near the england squad, no matter how poor a side weve been putting out recently. no matter what russell says, there is only one good burgess brother at this moment in time, and he doesnt ply his trade in our hemisphere!(unfortunately)

I think you're being a bit harsh on Luke Burgess. He's got the size, he just needs the experience to supplement that. I think I'd put him alongside Griffin and even Fielden at the moment.

I agree. Under the likes of Jamie Peacock and Ben Cross im sure he can develop into a decent player. Probably won't be a world beater but will be very solid.
