| Gilmour is gonna be our biggest loss for a while.
Im also gutted hes going, and for once I think Saints have made a mistake.
He has been amazing for Saints. Good luck to him.

St Conroy in a make his own opinion shocker.
If we have a full squad next year we should go with Puletua, Wilkin and Flannery as our second rowers and loose. Cloughie on the bench.
We'd then have Ashurst, Dixon to bring into when neccesary to cover for injuries and to potentially develop in some lesser games. Sia can also play second row if injuries/form permitted.
Therefore Gilly is easily expendable. Would i keep him for another year like we offered, probably because of his versatility but it isn't as bad as people are making out.

All that of course is a fair argument, especially when McGennis who is supposedly better than Dixon and Ashurst will probably get an opportunity aswell.
But for me Gilmour is better than the lot of them. I'd also class Puletua more as a prop, particularly if we don't bring in another prop from outside the club.

| I said on redvee at the time it was a mistake, it still is that in my opinion.
Classy player, gives his all, wrong decision by the club.

| Gillie's not getting any younger - look what happend to Willie Talau.
BTW, I remember Cloughie getting a hat trick against Warrington last year when we really needed it with his hit and spin. Like many of our players, he seems to have bulked up beyond his normal game which has made him less impactive this season.

| is one of the best 2nd rows in the game.
He's also probably one of the fastest players in our squad over about 50 yards
Big loss next year.

| Its a sad case when your quickest player (youngsters and possibly Pryce aside) is a second rower, but Gilly is that. I'd also say he is our best back rower. I said at the time it was a mistake to let him go and I still believe it now, Huddersfield have got themselves a top signing.
We have a lot of cover for second row next year, but a lot of those players are similar in style. I was shot down for this at the time, but I have a feeling that Soliola will spend a lot of time in the back row to allow one of Wheeler/Dean/Lomax to play at centre, and if he's as good as Gilly there I'll be happy.

Agreed, I think we will see the auld seldgehammer in the 2nd row. Unless wheels continues his terrible run of injury form?

I agree, from what i have heard from the club if Gilmour had re-signed then we would have not been able to keep Ashurst and Dixon. Given that choice you need to go with youth, otherwise you end up in the same situation as Wigan are in.
People who have labeled Ashurst and Dixon as workers and squad fodder are being very unfair. There are many Saints "greats" who looked nothing special in their first season at the club. Dixon especially has shown some good touches.
It is very sad that Gilmour is going. He is probably the most underated player in the League. Lossing him is a bigger loss than Long and Cunningham IMO. But it is still a loss that needs to happen for our long term success.

You've got an absolute belter. He'll make you even stronger next year. I think you've recruited very well.
