All the stats show is that they are very different players. As a Saints fan I obviously want Roby to win.
It is hard to say who is the best player as I have not seen most of the games Tomkins has played in this year. I just have to guess what he has been like based on the 6/7 TV games and the games he has played against Saints. Sadly I imagine most of the player voting are in the same boat. It is a bit silly that the people voting have not seen all the games. The Dally M system where players are scored on a match by match basis does seem a better way but that would open the door for the winner to be a stand out player in a poor side i.e. Chase.
On the basis of what I have seen Tomkins deserves it on how he has played. It is just a case of his none playing activities (fingers at Wembley and general cheating) will make the players not want to vote for him.
Chase is over rated and does not deserve to be nominated. |

Stand out player in a poor side. Plus Tomkins and Roby play for Lancashire teams, the Albert Goldthorpe medal has always had a yorkshire biase. It is not worth the foil and chocolate it is made out of.

The Albert Goldthorpe Medal is presented by one newspaper. The journalist who covers a match gives 1, 2,,or 3 points to the 3 players he thinks has been the best. Somebody else covers another game and they give their points out. Yet when you look in another publication the man of the match has gone to somebody else. Not all journalists see a game in the same way.
