Quote: Ski "And the lads singing Die Die Newton, please don't return. I'd rather have 500 off the audience than be associated with, and labelled as, your kind.
Booing an abject display from a side who have set the standard for nigh on 5 years now? Get a grip, we are going to lose some.
Singing about Newton is one thing, it was 5 years ago. Most of you, if you took the blinkers off, would take him at S next season any day. On top of that, wishing death upon someone?'"
It's a difficult subject this as I can see both sides of it. I grew up following Saints in the 80's and was subjected to displays that would have made last nights effort look like Brazil had just took up playing RL. I feel priviliged to be following such a successful team and as much as I have tried not to take it for granted, you can't help but expect to be turning over the Bulls and be disappointed when you don't. ATEOTD though, 15/16 year old lads who don't know the history behind the club are going to be more disappointed than me because they DEMAND success. It's not the right way to be and if we took a Wiganesque fall from grace they may suddenly be cherisihing the position we are in now.
In saying all that though, I try to put things in perspective. If you ate at a reastuarant every week and it was magnificent 9 times on the bounce but the 10th time you went, your food was awful, would you not feel you had the right to say something because of what you had previously? I would. I'd go back and expect things to return to normal but sometimes even the best need a reality check. I know it's not a perfect analolgy because restaurants don't play 3 games in 8 days, do they?
