Reliable in pretty much all area's of the game, but highly unlikely to make carve out a match winning opportunity on his own. The kind of player who's dependent on the team they play in to make them look good. Stick them on the wing for Wakey for example and they'd be pretty non existent IMO.'"
Not true. There have been several moments of genius from Foster that hold him apart from the run of the mill average youth products like Goulding. The round the back take and finish against Leeds for one.

In that very same corner at Headingley Goulding tuck a Lockers pass from above his head and managed to squeeze in at the corner. An equally good piece of handling from Gouding IMO.
All I'm wondering is whether Foster has the ability to create his own opportunities instead of having them created for him. That's what separates the top players from the average one's, for me anyway.

| TBH thought he was average today in defence compared to recent games but cas were very good and will show up many wingers.
However he was ice COOL at the end with that kick.
Gotta like him; he has some style.

| It's pointless to compare Foster and Goulding. Not least because the former hasn't physically developed. The fact that he has achieved so much this far whilst playing at a disadvantage against established pros suggests he has a big future in the game.
It remains to be seen whether he'll continue as a winger or slide into the centre or full-back slot. Given his touch (always the sign of a good player) I suspect he'll move inside. He's not an elusive player, but he has plenty of smarts. Enough certainly to give his wingman a belly full of service.
If Saints have any sense they'll tie him down to a long term contract.

| Quote: LovesToSpooge "Granted as a Wigan fan I don't see Foster that much. But I'll ask the question. If you tuck Foster's superb goal kicking ability off him, is he any good? Personally I've never seen him bust a tackle or go on a jinking maisey run to evade defenders. It does appear to me that he's just a one trick pony. That may be a little harsh, but I've never seen the kid create something out of nothing.
Roby on the other hand. What can I say that hasn't already been said. Just a superb player.'"
He's not just a good goal kicker but it helps that he is because it's been a long while since we had one.
He's good under the high ball, reads the game very well, good in defence and good finisher with good workrate.
However, I do agree with the fact he can't bust a tackle, step past defenders or go on jinking maisey runs but I hope as he grows and develops he will gain that. Potter said last year that foster is playing a year before they wanted him to.
I think his progress has been outstanding since that Salford game.
That catch in last min a Wigan last year, that finish at Leeds and that kick off the touchline against cas show he's got something about him.

| Is he a one trick pony? Is he any good? Not the type of winger to go on a mazy run and can only kick goals??
Ill call your Jamie Foster and raise you a Frano Botica!

Fair asessment maybe, but then on last years criteria, he must be a candidate for man of steel. Certainly has at least as much to his game as Richards, except for the ability to twoer over oppostiton wingers and catcvh the high kicks to a corner, although he does seem pretty safe on the whole under these sort of kicks anyways. Unfortuantely for Foster, unlike last year, other players such as Roby are performing, so he is unlikely to follow Richards as MoS.

| I wouldn't bet against Roby being man of steel and Foster the highest points scorer in SL

I've yet to see Foster score 80 yarders, Botica scored quite a few.

No, but he has transferred the ball from one hand to the other behind his back to finish in a tight corner.

Botica was a one trick pony! the best kicker i've ever and probably will ever see, but the rest of his game was garbage and he was carried by the rest of the team

| As well as goal kicking, he has safe hands under kicks, even under a lot of pressure (remeber his take at the DW last year which caused Stevo to give him MoM?). He also has a canny nack of being in the right place at the right time to cover kicks through and alike. I think he could make a good full back.

| Great kicker, safe as houses in defence and a natural finishing ability.
9 tries from 8(+3) games is a great return. This is all playing outside makeshift centres - imagine him alongside a Lyon or Gidley...
True, we've not seen him go 80 metres but we've also not seen him put into space. Not many of today's wingers can create a try from 80 metres - only Jodie Broughton springs instantly to mind and for me, Foster offers infinitely more as a player than he does.
His turn of pace for his 2nd try against Wigan suggested he can shift when he gets chance...

Unfortunately for Foster, he has to play against full time professionals.
