| New grounds almost without fail lead to a spike in attendances. Whether that's long-term or not who knows but there will definitely be a jump in attendances thanks to the new-stadium effect.

Just to clarify, I meant on paper the idea of Royce Simmons; the stadium I'm 100% for.

| They haven't even appointed a contractor yet to build it. The more important queston is how many Eccleston lazy s will travel to Widnes.
On the plus side we could just tell this new coach that Widnes is our ground and he wont know any difference.

| Quote jaybs="jaybs"That about sums it up, how many people especially younger supporters know their local club history? I was not old enough to see Tom play, but I know the club's history and I have read books and watched video of Vollenhoven. The method of voting could have lead to repeat voting, that would be done more by younger supporters than older who would have supported Tom. My suggestion when the idea was first muted was for the statue to be two or three players to reflect the history of the club as well as present.
Do you not accept Billinge Lump that if the same type of voting for say such a TV show from the 60's and the present that it would be the latter that would always win, it says a lot that the vote was so close and the loyalty and knowledge of the older supporters.'"
You wanted the club to set up independently audited phone lines for the vote?
Perhaps they should have done it by postal vote only? Then only the old biddies would have voted as it's quite possible that none of the youth of today can address an envelope properly.
FWIW, I voted for either Van Vollenhoven or Murphy (can't remember which), and I think Elmer Fudd is a poor choice for the statue at this time, just due to the fact he's still playing.

I totally agree with you about the postal vote LOL! My Vote was for Tom as I don't agree with statues for living players (still playing), but I did put forward that the statue could have been three players honoring a few greats era's as well as today.

Total Apologies! that should have read players currently playing!
If you watch the 2 hour DVD of Tom being asked about our great game, it shows what an ambassador he is and is still alive and proud of RL as shown in the recent SA Tour matches.

| On this subject of the statue, Stevo always gets it wrong and I think a few on here do as well, the statue is not to honour KC personally it is to honour the club, if you have a look closely Keiron's name does not apear on the statue just the words THE SAINTS

They couldn't afford an independently audited phone line, they certainly couldn't afford the bronze for three players

| Quote FearTheVee="FearTheVee"I know where you're coming from, but to play devil's advocate . . . .
Vollenhoven played 417 times for Saints, KC has played 504 so far (according to Saints Heritage Society)
Vollenhoven played for 11 seasons, KC has played for 17
Vollenhoven was South African, KC in a St Helens lad
Vollenhoven is all time top try scorer, KC is all time top try scoring forward
Vollenhoven won the league championship 2 times, KC has won it 5 times
Vollenhoven won the challenge cup 2 times, KC has won it 7 times
Now I'm not suggesting Vollenhoven shouldn't have got the statue (he was my vote) but it's not as clear cut as you might at first think.'"
Nail on head.
How people can claim KC shouldn't have been the choice for the statue simply because he is still playing is beyond me. His record speaks for itself - he will absolutely be held in the same esteem as Voll, Murphy, et al.
A club legend, whether retired yet or not, and worthy of all the plaudits that come his way.
