He was clearly inferior to Gardner is pretty much every respect bar goalkicking in his time at Saints. He struggled to make the team at Crusaders last year.
Have you watched him play for Salford at all this year?'"
You do realise in 2007 (When Tyrer was in our first team) he was only 17 ? He turned 18 that season. That is extremly young and to be honest he held his own in attack. I always remember him fending off Tadulala for a great try. The problem with Ste is defence, however put him the the wing intead of centre and you have a decent winger. Certianly better than Ade imo.
Ste did well for Widnes in 2008 and after a write off season in 2009, lets see how he goes before you all brand him a poor player eh ? He turned 21 yesterday. Still a very young player.

| One more thing. He is currently outshining Jodie Broughton at Salford. A player who Leeds fans think highly of and a number of posters on this site wanted him signed in the off season.

| FWIW Ste wont return to Saints as we have better players in our academy. Tommy Makinson is a real gem from Wigan St judes.
His in the England u18 selection squad for 2010.

| I do think we got rid of Tyrer a bit too quickly. The lad worked hard and even chipped in with the odd try. Yes, he had a few defensive disasters - but so do most teenagers thrown into the first team. I recall someone saying we don't need Tyrer because Foster will turn out to be a better player. Well, that prediction isn't looking too sound at the moment.

Is Foster not progressing as planned?

I would agree. And while some people are saying that he allowed a couple of tries against the Quins, on the tries show earlier this week he was also shown collecting some good ball which meant tries weren't scored. So while he still may be a bit unreliable defensively, he can do the business. Clearly he just needs to become more consistent.

We haven't seen anything of him at first team level since a friendly against Widnes at the outset of the 2009 season, when he got injured.

Not necessarily, he's only on loan and that may have done him a lot of good.

He's been playing full back for a while now hasn't he?

I agree with Tyrer on loan, It did Moore the world of good, so you could be right. Foster is playing FB currently too

| Put it this way - the difference between Lomax (at the age of 1icon_cool.gif and Wheeler (19) on the wing last season compared to Tyrer (who turned 18 the year he made his debut) was humungous.
They don't display any of the glaring weaknesses Tyrer had in his game, and look better with the ball. And neither of them were usually outside backs in the youth set-up either, which Tyrer was.

| Get him back on the wing with Lomax. Gardner and Smelly can then be cut for two humongous NRL props.

That may be the case but people develop at different rates and so Tyrer could end up being a very good player, defensively as well as in attack, but he simply may be taking longer to get there than the two you mention. And don't forget, last season Lomax was not the safest with the ball. He did suffer from dropsy, whereas Wheeler was very secure with the ball. That's just one example of how people develop differently but shouldn't be written off too soon.

| I've never been a big fan but 12 tries in 19+3 appearences for saints isn't bad. Especially given his very young age.
