Well we all know the rules at the beginning of the year and tbh Leeds have been outstanding for the last few weeks. I'm dissapointed but certainly not bitter over the result.

Nope. That's the whole point of a playoff system.

So what point / value does the 27 game league season have. Are the previous 27 games really just warm up matches for the final two play off games?

Nope. The league and the playoffs are two separate competitions. We should make a much bigger fuss of the league leaders, perhaps awarding a trophy and calling it the Premiership or something. But what the league does is qualify you or otherwise for entry into the playoff competition, which is a separate being entirely. This season has illustrated that well I think.

In an ideal world we'd play the league without playoffs, but for the good of the game we need a showcase event, the Super League sells itself much better with the hype of the playoffs I'm afraid. I say that as a Saint, who would be celebrating 6 league titles rather than 5 if it was straight league format.
