If you wanna get technical Connolly was a right centre for Saints not a left one and whilst in a Saints shirt was never at the same level of Newlove. Even when Connolly was at his peak I would say he would compliment Newlove rather than replace him.

My all time favourite Saints player.
Pure class, and a sad loss to the game when he retired early.
Another favourite of mine was Frank Wilson. Top man, he used to come and have a game of football with us on Banks park in Billinge, lovely man, and took all our "Wigan stick" the way it was meant.
