I could see it was offside in the ground and was relieved at the time. No one supporting Leeds cheered when they first showed it on the screen. All the neutrals around us were upset because they knew it was going to be disallowed. And it should have been.
You will see the same thing many times next season and they will always be correctly ruled out.
I think you will find I stated that Leeds were very worthy winners on another thread. You guys thoroughly deserved it.'" I thought it was off side in the ground. But after watching it again at home a few times and understanding the rules as explained by the ref on the night and the head of the refs I think it was a close 50/50 that went Leeds way and it was a try.

I think it is very telling that Cummings had to write a piece for the rugby league press attempting to convince everyone Bentham was right. Cummings also said he could have understood a penalty try being awarded to Gardner for Webb's illegal tackle, but that wasn't given. I think his need to explain and defend his refs' decisions says more about those decisions than anything else. He clearly knows his refs were on thin ice.
Had it not been for Meli's two brainfarts I would say Leeds were extremely lucky to win on Saturday night. However, as I have acknowledged elsewhere, those two dodgy decisions (against Gardner and for you) were not the reason we lost. Meli was.

by some random fluke end up sat next to an assistant coach of a super league club, he called every VR decision as the VR did, before the VR did, I raised the question of a possible penalty try when they replayed Webb's challenge, he said 'nah, not in the act of scoring'..
he also felt that Smiths 2nd was a try.

But the explanation they gave isn't in the rule book, it doesn't say anything about planted feet and ball position.
What it actually says is that if you're in front of a team mate and he has the ball in his hands then you are offside. You can get put back onside if he gets in front of you or you give the opposing side 10 metres.
Cummins has come out with a load of waffle to cover Bentham's shocking error of judgement. Most folk will take that waffle as gospel.

| Quote: sgtwilko "you really need to get over it! we all accept the call was a 50/50 and as with most vid ref calls they can and do go either way! To say there should have Been only one out come to the referral is nieve, blinkered and down right ignorant!
You are just not gonna have it that Bentham refed it to the letter of the law. Instead you think you have been robbed.
Most fans dont have a real clue what rules the refs are using as the only feedback we get most of the time is what the idiots on sky or the BBC tell us. Bentham gave the reason for his decision(both the players feet were behind the ball, which they were) and those sky fools just ignored the refs feedback via the director!
Thats why people like you are posting this crap, you dont know the rules! You only think you do. Your ignorance is painful! your own players don't have a problem with it. Why? Because they know the rules.
As you say that red line might not be 100% but it shows you it was increadibly tight! And noway can you rule it out without doubt! It's a stone wall 50/50 it went Leeds way.
dry your eyes mate!
I know it's hard to take!
I know how much the pain hurts!
But it's over!'"
I'm an Hull Fc fan, no hurt for me chuckle brother. On top of that I've got better eyesight than you & Bentham & can clearly see there's no 50/50 about it, he's offside.

| No, no, no, no hes not. His feet are behind the ball, it is plain to see when you watch the replays. You really need to get a grip and move on. Saints and neutrals alike. It is becoming pathetic now.

Oh yes cummings says he agrees with ref what a shock.
He also said he heard a rumour that bears defecate in wooded areas and that the pope may be of the christian faith.
You clown, if he disagreed with BENTham's decision he would have to demote him etc.
If you care to read league express, all the other "experts" etc like sadler say it was no try.

| Even Stevo, that great lover of Leeds, is still saying it was offside.

In fact he says that the over pitch camera which was not available to BENTham was even more conclusive to the fact Smith was offside.
The reason we have not let this issue "go" IMO is not the fact we lost but because the whinos can't see that there was any doubt about it. Even Lee Smith says he wasn't absolutely certain either way.
I accept that if it had been the other way round, I would be extremely pleased but I would have also thought that we had been a bit lucky (as we were against bradford with the knock on / no knock on by withers). Unfortuntately to most leeds fans think that magnanimousness is some sort of alcoholic drink.
