True.
He was unbelievably lazy yesterday, a disgraceful performance effort wise, but a typically brilliant finish from him. When he puts his mind to it, he's a fantastic player.

a tad harsh, IMO they kept missing him out of the line, looking for the big pass straight to Foster, when they finally gave him the ball, he showed why he was deserving of his 2 yr deal

| He was similar at Wigan, although I understand he has just come back from injury so I'll give him a bit of slack. I'd still expect him to go looking for a bit more work though, like Shenton did.

| Very good game played by 2 very good teams. Some times you have to take the good with the bad. Even though i'm as gutted as you no doubt were on Friday, I'll look at the positives. We gave you a very good game and have obviously proven we've made 100% progress on last year and are a match for anyone. The superleague is getting stronger and that's what we all want. All the best saints fans see ya next year.

| The player at fault was the Castleford player who wrongly kicked the ball up into the air with 2 minutes only to go when winning! a kick into touch would have slowed the game right down and would there have been enough time after the scrum to go down field and score, but like wrong referee decisions we will never know?

| What stick did Richie Mathers get? And how did he react? Heard he reacted to some abuse from Saints fans.

I think it was all on Twitter post-match, rather than at the game.
He posted a couple of tweets about how they'd had nothing from the ref, but what seemed to trigger it was a tweet he sent to Lee Smith about bad reffing calls (again) and reporting that "that winger" kicked a goal to win it.
Some Saints fans felt it was deliberately disrespectful to Foster.
Summat and nowt, really.

Quite.
Rather than being disrespectful, I imagine Mathers genuinely couldn't think of his name - after all, he'd used all his brain capacity remembering his Twitter log in.

| It was all after the game and it came about Mathers praising Foster but not getting his name correct, for which he quickly apologised! but the attacks and some of the comments from so called RL fans was a Total Disgrace to our great game! so it was really nothing and I have seen worse things from young players, in fact some are in fact stupid the things they do say on twitter! and are tweeting complaining they can't sleep early hours of a match day! if you can't sleep it will not do you good to turn on your iPhone to tell the world you can't sleep, it makes the mind even more active!
Some fans get too far uptight!!!! In fact you don't need to log in,

ut th
It wasn't about him getting his name wrong, it was about calling him 'that winger' which comes across as very disrespectful to a fellow professional me, intentional or not. Putting 'their' or 'the' would not have resulted in the same backlash IMO. Perhaps he will think before typing in future.
Though some of the abuse was over the top, and that's only what I saw.

The kind of things the Saints fans were saying to Mathers, though, were really embarrassing. They were spitting tweets at the bloke. It took Jamie Foster intervening to stop the bile. Embarrassing. I hope it doesn't put the Saints players off tweeting as I've really enjoyed following Wello's banter with Foster. Those two are hilarious sometimes.
Poor ole Mathers just forgot Foster's name.

I didn't see much of what Saints fans responded with, other than the odd one he retweeted where he'd been called a w***er but that's no doubt because I haven't really worked out how Twitter works!!
I thought it was disappointing that he seemed to tweet several times about the 'bad calls' they'd had. Our lads, after losing in similar circumstances to the auld enemy, seemed far more gracious in defeat than Mathers and, indeed, Matterson.
No call for 'bile' from the speccies though.
Maybe there's a lesson to be learned in players steering away from Twitter until the dust has settled after a game.

Does a broken knee class as not "that badly injured"?
I think common sense should always rule, especially when it comes to players safety. If an honest prop forward lies pretty prostrate then I would think the referee should use his commen sense (fairplay we're talking about Bentham here) and stop the game- especially when 4-5 people surround said player for a good 30-40 seconds before Bentham even decided to consider stopping the game.

my point is that immeadiately after the the tackle it was clear he was hurt, but not (spinal) serious as he was moving, as the ref follows play it is then up to his assisstants to draw his attention to the seriousness of the injury
