| Surely powell would be too big a contract to buy out. What does he have left 4 or 5 years.

On the basis of this season I'd agree with you Pete but I have a feeling Cas may struggle next year with the players they are losing. I think next season, if they can remain competitive, will be the making of him as a coach. On the turnaround job he's done this year I agree he's a quality coach.

Thanks but no thanks.
DA has been out the coaching game too long IMO and there isn't a chance Powell comes to LP with the Cas project he is on.
Would you take a punt on getting Stephen Kearney from the Broncos?

Completely agree. Worked very well at Leeds nurturing the talents of Burrow, McGuire etc. Did very well at Featherstone and has worked wonders at Cas. Deserves a crack with Saints in my opinion and is the only obvious choice. Also it would be great to have a British Coach at our club.

| Would love to see a British coach at Saints, but can't see it being Powell as he'll surely want to stay with Cas and see what he can achieve over a longer period. I for one would like to see Brown stay, the last thing we need is another new coach after so much disruption in that department over the last few years. I really can see him doing wonders here at Saints with 'HIS' squad in place now and with the likes of Walsh & Lomax back next year and joined by Burns.

I agree. British and a good track record. He must be cheesed off at Cas losing key players too

I really really hope not. I dont think he's up to it and it will destroy the legacy of what he did as a player if the fans start to turn on him

| It would not destroy the legacy of him as a player.
Does Schofields coaching destroy his playing credentials, same goes for Murphy. The playing days and coaching days can be separated.

| What do we really know about Cunningham's coaching ability at this point? I'm not sure he's done enough to get a head coaches job, the likes of Wane and Anderson have served long apprenticeships with their respective clubs before getting a big job and ideally KC would do the same.

Of course they can. But theres a statue of him at the bloody stadium! KC has never had anything but adoration from the Saints fans and public. I dont know how he'd cope if that changed

This is the 4th year of his "apprenticeship." We'd hardly be throwing him straight from the pitch to the manager's office.

| Being an assistant coach at an underachieving club (which saints have been since he's been involved) does not automatically qualify you for the head coaches position, whether you are supremely respected by the players/fans or not. As everyone knows, respect takes years to earn but that can be lost very quickly if he doesnt have the tactical and man management skills needed to manage a successful group of players.
At saints, it is clear he has a job for as long as he wants it, but I would like to see him serve his time under a couple of other experienced coaches (to learn different styles) and then maybe even go out on duel reg to coach a lower division club for a few seasons before being given the chance. We all saw what happened to Daryll Powell when he was given the Leeds job too early, he ended up leaving and spent years learning how to be a coach before then being given the opportunity again in SL. Hes now considered strongly to be coach of the year. Exactly the same happened with James Lowes when he was at Warrington. Sometimes, the legacy as a player and reputation as a person clouds the fact that you may not actually be the man for the job at that specific time.
Im sure KC will go on to be a successful coach, no doubt, but I just worry that being given the job too soon may do him more harm than good in the long term.
