There's no point giving a championship player a relatively expensive 2 year contract if one of our kids can do it better - That's before even getting into who in the championship would be capable of stepping up, and fit the role we need them to play. I don't know enough about the championship to say, but before demanding we sign xyz the club need to make sure any cover signings (if we can even make any) would do more good than harm.
1,6,7 out going into the playoffs, you couldn't make it up'"
Not really. Look at our playing roster? We have wheeler and charnock who should of been given game time this year but hasn't. So we just have wheeler. I don't want us to move 8 players around to fill 1 position. We played better when GOB slotted in and wasn't on the canvas.

a) Championship players aren't that cheap - you don't just have to match their rugby salary - but salary from elsewhere too - £40-50k minimum - yes, we are desperate at this moment, BUT in 12 months time, when were scrambling around for a halfback of any quality to replace Walsh (if he leaves) that 40-50k would be very useful in throwing a big contract at someone - sometimes the short term loss of having to move players around is worth the long term gain of SC flexibility.
b) it still doesn't answer the question of who would ACTUALLY do a better job then Wilkin, who already knows all the structures, and has played there for the best part of 2 years now. On top of that, game managers are rare, and clubs aren't going to be willing to lose them without a fight.
c) I wanted to sign gob when we had the chance at the start of the year for precisely that reason.
d) fortunately we may actually get a few days to think about it, wheeler and Wilkin will be the combo at hull - but then we have a week to consider our position and move accordingly.
Edit: IF we have cap space - Jacob Miller (on loan)?

| Can someone find that buggering gypsy who put the injury curse on all our best players, and pay whatever price she's demanding to lift it.

Luke Gale - Josh Drinkwater
Drinkwater had a great kicking game when we played them last week, but was dire in defence and would be targetted mercilessly. I still can't decide if Gale is an ultra over rated halfback or just poorly done to by a pack that doesn't do anything...

Luke Gale and Josh Drinkwater. The latter would count on the quota, I think.
I think this is where O'Donnell comes in.

| Saints tweeted:
Walsh is either a compound fracture of leg or dislocation of ankle according to Brown. News on Wilkin "isn't ideal" either.
What's wrong with Wilkin?
Quota wouldn't be an issue if we have cap space, deregistering Walsh from our 25 man squad frees up a quota spot (I think hull Kr have done it before)

They did it with Dobson.
Dobson would be a good call or Todd Carney but obvious visa problems. If we are going to pay for a stand off next year them now Is the time to move and get him.
When is the deadline?
I didn't think we could win the grand final but always thought the was outside chance if all our main players was fit but IMHO if we don't get a halfback in then our season is over.

Cap space is the issue. Deregistering Walsh would free up his quota space but not his cap space (he'd still be one of the top 25 paid players at the club I'd bet)
Gale could be a saviour or absolutely dire, if we could bring a player in for the rest of the season, I think he'd be my choice - assuming Todd Carney is a no go (I get the feeling someone is trying to get him a visa, which is why it's all gone quiet!)
I never say never, but it feels like 2005 all over again...

| Arsenal player Eduardo suffered a very similar injury to Walsh's and was out for a full 12 months.
Its a potential career ender, especially if the bone gets infected as it did with Kevin Ward.
He is going to have to have his leg screwed and pinned back together for a couple of months. May also need bone grafts if the bone doesn't heel properly.
Will probably be in pain for months.

I'd be happy with Gale or even Gaskell. We are desperate. We need a halfback even if it's your mate GOB

Remember when Wilkin was supposed to have dislocated his shoulder chasing after an attacking kick by Walsh? Then he suddenly reappeared just a couple of weeks later? That's the problem. His shoulder is now knackered and he may well be gone for the season. I was standing next to the brother of a player at the match tonight and he told me.
Wheeler was almost non-existent tonight and no way could he take control of the game.
Wello and Robes stepped up and Turner tried his best - well, to be fair, they all did, we even had the sight of LMS punting a kick and chasing it! That brought him a chant from the west stand!
