Had a quick look at the terms of their 'contract' oddly I didn't see a time limit, simply 'leaving the site' is not allowed. Which is difficult to prove without a parking attendant.
There's no anpr cameras yet, however they generally only use them when there are time limits

Private parking penalties are pretty much unenforceable anyway - to legally get money off you, they'd need a court order, and to do that they need to take court action against the driver who had parked it (unlike the local authority-issued tickets, where the registered user is liable). In short, they're scared to death of taking a case to court because they know they'll lose and set a precedent.
The scum operating parking charge companies will deploy all manner of threatening actions to rty ot frighten you into paying (and also may send heavies round to your house) - but they have no legal powers and you can get any collection agencies to desist by telling them they're harrassing you, that you dispute the charge, and you'll contact the authorities if they continue to harrass you. Also, clamping cars on private land will also be made a criminal offence - www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/t ... ves-closer
Of course, if a car park closes a barrier to stop people leaving it's not much use. And I appreciate some of the scum deployed by parking companies are knuckle-dragging thugs who'll try to intimidate you.
But the overall message is, don't pay the parasites, just go to this site:

What if they say its a private road and threaten to clamp? How do you establish whether it is legal or not?

At present, they can clamp you. You'd have to sort the legality out afterwards, most likely by you making a claim against them in the small claims court (if you could trace them).
Sounds to me like scumbags trying to rip people off

| We parked in the retail park by Burger King and came back to the car after the Salford game to find a ticket on the windscreen.
Noticing that they weren't on any other cars I asked a bobby I saw whether it was a dodgy one. She said it wasn't, even though the parking was allowed (an even encouraged by the authorities) for the Widnes game, the retail park had changed their policy and were now ticketing cars who they were sure were only there for the rugby.
It was my buddy's company car and his reaction was that he's just not going to pay it.
Friday night parking isn't going to inhibit the retail park in anyway, they've just got the sniff of some extra cash. I reckon next time I'll just grab some dog food from Pets at Home when I get there to validate my parking, since it seems the most convenient place to park.

| I recommend he goes on moneysavingexpert and search on UKCPS. His initial reaction of not paying it is spot on.
Most simply use bully tactics in an effort to make you pay. They'll send lots of official looking threats of going to court too
