| Saints have confirmed on their website that there is no parking in any of the retail parks or at Tesco or on the streets around Peasley Cross area. It's in the town centre and then walk. But the Chalon Way car park holds over 600 cars alone and Saints provide examples of other car parks in the town as well so even on a Saturday afternoon CC match there shouldn't be a problem with parking.

Not so sure they can stop people parking in the whole of the peasley cross area.
They didn't mind us parking near the ground at widnes when we were only guests, so I would expect at least the same treatment from our own club/town. It is totally impractical for me coming over from warry to drive past the ground and park in town and is something I just won't do; I'd rather park in somewhere like jackson st, sherdley industrial estate, burtonhead road or the like.

But you were the one telling us that Saints were in negotiation with retail parks to allow car parking there, when everyone else was telling you it wasn't going to happen.

That's because Saints themselves said they were in negotiations with the retail parks. I didn't say anything about us being allowed to park there; just that Saints were in negotiations. Obviously the negotiations went nowhere and we're back to square one, which was using the town centre car parks. The focus at planning time was the multistorey beside the old Tesco and that is the first one Saints have referred to on their website.

Unless there are parking restrictions in place already then no, they can't. And they won't! That will be up to the Council following any complaints they may receive from residents.
I would imagine things will work out in St Helens as they do anywhere else. I think there's only Hull FC stadium that actually has enough parking spaces for match day isn't there? Everywhere else people get to know where to park or they do what I do and go by coach.

| I suspect the industrial estate near the ground will cash in (if they're clever enough) i think it's very much a wait and see

I don't think there will be a lot of parking problems at Salford's new ground - after all surely there should be enough for 100 cars!

I wouldn't really call driving to the next roundabout on the road, then a short 2 minute to the car park drive totally impractical, mildly inconvenient perhaps, but nothing more. It'll take you as long to work your way to Jackson St and walk from there.

| Serious question..I live near the new stadium..and I am concerned that parking might be a problem..just talking to some friends who intend to park where I live..I just wondered if part of the planning for the stadium included parking? .I have been told that saints expected the haulage firm that occupies part of the site to sell up but they refused? can someone set me straight on this please..by the way great stadium!

| Quote: Gruntfuttock "There isnt any matchday parking at the stadium , supporters are supposed to use the multi story and street level car parks very close by , we willl try and put some directions up nearer the start of the season'"
I refer you to my first response on this thread "there is NO matchday parking at the ground" all the parking there is sponsors ,staff, disabled , and any functions , all supporters will have to use the town centre multi stories, or find street parking nearby but i bet the wardens will be out in force on matchdays , also Tesco and the retail park will have number plate cams and barriers , so you will cop a fine if you try that as well , JJP as far as I know are moving eventually its not Saints who are wanting the site its Langtree and there is still phase 2 of the site that they want to develop with hotel shops cafes etc
the Saints website says it all really
Quote: Gruntfuttock "Parking and Transport
Langtree Park, the new home of St. Helens Rugby Football Club, is situated on Peasley Cross Lane, St. Helens, WA9 3AL.
The Club and planners hope the majority of spectators will park in the town centre car parks and make their way on foot over the new footbridge that spans the Linkway East.
The bridge is accessed from Salisbury Street, opposite the World of Glass, and is a short walk from Chalon Way Car Park that holds 698 vehicles. It gives access to the front of the Tesco Extra Store and the Stadium is just around the corner.
There are numerous other Car Parks in the town centre available which are slightly further to walk from; for example, Birchley Street (496 spaces) and North John Street (216 spaces).
There is a footpath which runs along the Canal Bank - and this route allows you to access the new footbridge via Ravenhead Greenway.
The Canal Bank is not well illuminated but spectators can turn left at the World of Glass/Chalon Way and make their way along Salisbury Street, under the railway bridge, past the Chamber of Commerce and onto the bridge; the lighting has been upgraded and is well illuminated.
The footbridge can be accessed from St Helens Central too - by turning left onto Shaw Street, crossing Church Street and into Chalon Way East and then by turning left into Salisbury Street and walking under the railway bridge.
The footbridge can also be accessed from Matalan along the Canal Bank which is well lit onto Ravenhead Greenway.
No parking is available at the stadium, Peasley Cross Lane or any of the surrounding roads which are clearways. Tesco will have a number plate recognition scheme in place and parking time is restricted. Any breaches result in an automatic financial penalty.
The surrounding retail parks will also have parking restrictions on them with time slots and barriers.
We look forward to welcoming you.'"

| Is it beyond the wit of local bus companies to see a huge revenue opportunity here?

| I thought Langtree had identified some extra space on the site and they were looking at applying for planning permission to develop it into a pay car park. I can't see Tesco being happy on a Friday night if their cap park
was all of a sudden filled with spectators and shoppers had problems with finding a space.

| I haven`t seen anything about Langtree finding extra space for parking onsite and it says quite clearly

Saints mentioned a little while ago that discussions were in play with retail parks and St Helens Chamber of Commerce concerning possible parking options. Clearly no progress was made in those discussions and town centre parking is all there is.
As for Langtree, it looks like a car park is being developed to the left of the Peasley Cross entrance but who that is for isn't mentioned anywhere.
