Hardly a proven track record and also there lies the problem. I know Royce likes to play with 16 just to prove we can but having Wheeler in the 17 is a risk , he'll probably trip while warming up and damage his ligaments or something

With the exception of his comeback game, Pryce has been crap since he came back from injury. I don't care about his now distant past reputation. Gaskell and Lomax got us here (in halfback terms I mean), they deserve to be playing but if any changes need to be made - and if Leuluai is playing at 7 then I imagine they should be - Wheeler should be in there with Lomax, and Gaskell on the bench to sub him for a diversion and impact later on. Wheeler can kick.

| I would start with the same 13 but bring in either wheeler or pryce on the bench. Tricky decision, wheeler is horribly brittle, but has shown when fit that he can cause real problems. Pryce has a big reputation that he has failed to live up to for two years. Personally I'd go with wheeler, think he is more likely to cause problems and appears to be more committed than pryce. Either way it's a toss up.

| Even though Pryce has set the world alight since coming back, I amongst many others still see him as a massive danger - but could you take the risk of playing 2 players who have had injury troubled last 2 years in such a big game when its quite possible the full squad of 17 will be needed to win this game.

What and Pryce does deserve it?
Give wheels a chance - at least he is going to be with us for 10 years not 10 more minutes like pryce.

| The team that played at DW and won, providing all are still fit, should play again.
The change I would have liked to have seen would be if Flannery was fit to take the bench spot from Armstrong (who didnt get on the field last time), or if not hopefully Pryce.
I'd pick Pryce on the bench purely because he is comfortable anywhere in the backs as cover, can be relied on to go on the field and is one of the most dangerous players in SL on his day.

We never play a full 17 anyway, so no loss. We played with 16 last game out at the DW due to the inspired pick of Tom Armstrong in the critical "bench winger" spot that all the world's top sides employ.
Wheeler in for Armstrong for me - can cover centre or 6 better than Pryce can on this season's evidence and has shown an ability to come back from a lay-off and hit form (Wigan away, Quins away) whereas Pryce has been utterly anonymous.

| Basically we all agree same 16 and one change on the bench for a player we did not use. So basically no change.
Who ever is on the bench needs impact and for me that means speed. Pryce has speed wheeler guile. Throwing Wheeler on would mean the first option halves have failed. You can throw Pryce on for impact if the first choice halves are playing well.
Anyone wanting to replace meli needs their heads testing.
Sorry Saints fan.
Exiles player replaced for a hobnob just does not compute. Meli the only Saints threat in the CC semi without him we would have been niled.
Meli got no servie bar once last outing he'll be used more this week and destroy that wing of wigans

I don't understand people's drive to put Wheeler in the 17, If we had injuries yes but he is an unproven young lad with proven track record of getting injured. He is a better option than most but certainly not a fit Leon Pryce.

I Agee, wheeler hasn't played anywhere near enough games to prove he's good enough for super league level on a weekly basis.
Wheeler has shown some great potential but he's still got a hell of alot to prove.

Wheeler did more in the Good Friday game against Wigan than Pryce did in the CC semi against the same opposition. Sometimes experience counts for zip, if the willingness to engage aint there or the required skills aren't available. Wheeler can kick, for example, whereas Pryce can only hoof (with the odd 40/20 in there). Everybody bar none agreed after our CC defeat that we desperately needed a kicker in centre field. So either Lomax has to go or Pryce does not return. We cannot go into a match against Wigan without a kicker, be that Gaskell or Wheeler.
And if Wheeler were to play at centre what we would get is a player who has rugby smarts, great hands and great feet to cause more trouble to the opposition as opposed to someone who has no smarts at all, who is a threat 10m out it's true but who is also lazy in defence.

Your clearly not reading , I have at no point suggested we drop Lomaskell, In fact I don't think anyone has. Pryce as an impact player off the bench though offers more than Wheeler and would be able to fit into the team with far less disruption than Wheeler who would require other players to shift around.
TBH I think Royce will pick Leon unless he isn't fit.

Clearly I was because I answered the point you raised in the part of your post that I quoted, making clear that I preferred Wheeler over Pryce whereas you think Pryce over Wheeler. Lomax/Gaskell and the kicking was simply developing my point.
Pryce is not an impact player period. If you want an impact player then have Gaskell on the bench with Wheeler to start. Gaskell scored a try every time he came on during the period Pryce was playing, including at the CC semi. That to me suggests impact. Unlike Pryce, who had no impact. His shirt did blind me though with its whiteness.
