| He can't be faulted on enthusiasm and aggression, and he does have a really positive impact on some games. Unfortunately he often undermines that by giving away free territory with penalties and handling errors, often in the most criminal of circumstances. I agree with Saddened! that the calls against him on Sunday (not to mention that pass from LMS) were a little harsh, however.

| I agree with the OP. To be fair, I only get to watch televised games (and the one against Quins), but Moore always comes across as a liability. It's not just that he gives more penalties away than most (all?) other Saints players, but they're often stupid ones for holding down, rather than careless ones for a mistimed tackle. Aggression isn't enough. To compensate for being so small, he'd need to be either really quick (he isn't), or really clever on the field (he isn't). What we've got is an aggressive bloke who's too small for the forwards, too slow for the backs, not skilful enough for halves or hooker, and gives away 150 yards in every game through needless penalties. Widnes beckons.

I tottally disagree. You are talking utter tripe.
He has given away 14 pens this year from 20 appearances. Compare that with another agressive player ben westwood with 26 pens from 23 apps but who is a shoe in for England and talked about by no-one as a liability. Even Buderius got 19 pens from 26 apps.
Aggression is a major part of his game and he makes a big difference to us when he comes on.
Yes, he needs to be more careful about needless pens but this can be coached out of him IMO. He is only 23 and his best years are in front of him. He is not slow or particularly small at 5'11" and 15st 2lb.
I'll be gutted if we get shut of him.
There is no pleasing some people I suppose you'd rather have Flanno savaging the opposition like a dead sheep.

| He's not the only aggressive person, I see.
Actually, I don't rate Westwood particularly highly, on the grounds that he has just as many brain explosions. You have to do quite a lot in a game to make up for gifting the opposition 6 fresh tackles deep in your own half. I didn't say he was a bad player, but he offers nothing in attack which isn't offered by Ashurst, Clough, Dixon et al, and gives away more brainfart penalties than all of them.
Also, if Scott Moore is 5'11, then I believe that makes me 6'8. I'd better start ducking under door frames.

He doesn't even get in the top 50 penalty givers in SL.
He is miles better than any of the players you mention above and he isn't made from biscuits either like the above. He makes more tackles and in attack he makes more yards and has more try assists than any of them - plus he can kick!

| Quote: saint at wire "Roy, obviously at 6'8" the lack of oxygen is getting to you, or is it that fresh London air..
Taken from the Saints web sitehttps://www.saintsrlfc.com/teamrl
It says he is 180cm which my Acme conversion Calculator says he is 5' 10.866141732283452" so not quite 5 ft 11 in.
Leaving aside the issue of his goodness - we differ, and banging on about it won't change either of our minds - there's the more interesting issue of quoted player heights and weights in promotional literature.I recall buying a programme once back in the 80s, and seeing Neil Holding listed as being 5'11. Now Neil was a giant in midfield, but only in terms of skill, cheek and tasteless jokes. If Scott Moore was nearly 5'11, he'd be only an inch shorter than me. But I reckon I'd be able to admire his fulsome barnet a lot more easily than he could spot my sunroof.
That's the funny thing about pro RL players, they're often quite different from how they're described on paper. I think RL height measurements are like American clothes sizes for ladies - designed to flatter. The scales fell from my eyes when I used to step out with the daughter of an ex-pro from Widnes. I was talking to him in a slightly-in-awe way about some long-forgotten player, and pointing out that as a prop, he was only hitting his peak now he was 32 (yes, yes, this was the old days when you could be past 30 and not referred to as a "veteran"icon_wink.gif. My lass's das guffawed loudly and said "Aye, but that's his playing age, not his real one" and introduced me to the wonderful world of invented figures. This potential father-in-law had been a prop himself, and while he was indeed a very wide man, and not one I'd want to catch me getting up to no good with his beloved daughter, he had spent most of his playing career being described as 6'2", but he was a good inch shorter than me at least. There are some tall boys at Saints - Gaskell, to name but one - but Scott Moore ain't one of them !

| can't make my mind up on Scott Moore - clearly the jury is still out on him with opinion divided amongst the fans - If I was RS I would seriously be looking at Pelissier from Catalans - he is getting better with each game and would be the perfect complement to messers Lomax,Gaskell & co.

| Moores future could be decided outside the club.
I like him he gives the team a lift and is one of our more talented homegrown products. Not many players can be successful at three different clubs without being quality.
With the signing of flannagahn the writting is some what on the wall but he still has a year of his contract to turn around his off feild antics.
SEcond rowers we have
Moore
Sia
Flannaghan
Dixon
Flannery
Ashurst
Wilkin
Megennis
Thats eight second rowers for two spot. Apart from megennis and Flannaghan allthese are up for contract renewal 2012.
If sia resigns and wilkin re signs. That nay determine the rests future as do we need more than four or five second rowers.

If the rumours are true Moore & Ashurst won't be at the club next year. Megennis is a prop and has been used that way this year, playing loose, so would expect him to bulk up in the off season.that would leave us with 5 second rowers for 2/3 positions and a bench spot.

Not true. Especially last year Jammer put the play on straight from kick off when defenders bunched together trying to win the ruck defensively. The beneficiary is usually Wilkin as he runs great lines.
So if LMS can perfect this and send on of our players through a massive gap off our own line to run full length and win the Grand Final think it may have been worth while

Well thats the big question are the rumours true.
Personally I'dike to keep moore as Wilkin can play loose and as you say megenis maybe a prop. Flannery will retire at some point. So more would give us a class second rower for years to come assuming he is not in jail for years to come.

| I agree with all the positives raised on this thread, however Moore needs to show that he is learning or has learned from these brain farts. The concern is starting to grow that he isn't learning.

He isn't. I've commented on various other Scott Moore threads and I have come to the conclusion that others watch a completely different player to the one I do.
I admire his passion, but for me the positives don't outweigh the negatives. I don't think 'aggression' and very sporadic moments of brilliance compensates for all the missed tackles/gaps due to rushing out of the line, reckless penalties despite not playing long minutes and knock ons at the absolute worst moments.
Besides, this 'aggression' that people keep talking about brings less metres per carry than an Andrew Dixon, despite the fact that Moore often plays from acting half back and scoots often.
A player who would give his heart for the cause, but sadly not good enough for Saints in my opinion.
