Not sure if there are any fire appliances still there now, but at one point it was "make pumps 8"; rather dramatic for quiet St.Helens.
When I worked in Salford, this was the one landmark visiable from the top of Blg5 at Exchange Quays .....showed how flat the area between is, to the left fiddlers ferry,runcorn bridge then st helens. On a clear day you could just see b/pool tower.........honest lol
