| Quote: Dux "Where do Melbourne stand with respect to the salary cap these days? Are they fully under again? They were $700,000 over this time last year. If not, then contracts like Cronk's will be ones they'll be needing to offload sooner rather than later.'"
I think they managed to get back under by offloading the likes of Inglis, Hoffman, Lima, Finch etc..
However I would imagine they probably need to balance their finances as there will still be some high earners taking up a chunk of the legal cap, so it is perfectly feasable that a player like Cronk could be subject to trasnfer.

| Gidley was still in contract but we got him, clubs are sometimes willing to let players go due to salary cap, age,a better prospect coming through ect.Granted its unlikely that Melbourne would let one of thier stars go this way.

I've always though that Adam Blair may have been a target for you guy's. Particularly if Puletua is leaving.
But then you read an article like the one below. Only to realize the West Tigers are chasing Blair, and their prepared to pay him £320,000 a year for three years for his services.

Yeah, I seriously doubt Blair will be heading to the Super League anytime soon. He would earn more playing in the 'better' competition and not have to move half way round the world. However, if Blair is sold by Storm they may not neet to lose Cronk. It'll have to be a wait and see with this one, although Saints are interested in Cronk.

| SL cant compete with NRL wages as it stands unless you sign some randoms a la, the Hull Teams and Wakefield. It will be even worse when their salary cap gets even bigger due to the new bumper TV deal they are getting.

| Chris Sandow is staying at Souths. He was in the press stating how he hopes Bennett will coach them next year.

Until he's signed he's on the market. Never believe the Press.

| Short of lucking out with similar circumstances to those that presented Jamie Lyon to us I doubt very much whether we'll be able to afford an established, top-quality NRL half. There's just too much money in that competition at the moment. Which leaves either a veteran with one or two seasons left in him or a youngster with lots of potential. Both options have their positives and negatives.
Replacing Graham would present far greater difficulties because of the singular attributes he possesses.
1. Ability - the NRL might be awash with props but there aren't many available that are as good as Graham and in the prime of their careers.
2. Durability and fitness - Graham misses few games and, more importantly, is capable, in times of need, of fulfilling the roles of two props by playing close to 70 minutes. This is an absolutely priceless attribute and one that we will struggle to replace.
3. Leadership - Graham is the heartbeat of the club. A born competitor and leader. If he goes who assumes this role? Wellens? Roby? Are they capable?
