| I don't mind Briers at all. He was desperate to play for Saints and was gutted to join Warrington. I'm sure that lead to him naturally resenting Saints for a few years, but he seems to have matured under Tony Smith and last night when we could have seen his more extravagant side come through he was reserved and didn't even celebrate.

Thats like saying Ricky Bibey would be a ledge if he still was a saints player.
He's not a Saints player, he was shipped out and replaced with a better player.
Briers career may have been better if he'd stayed at Saints, but Saints certainly benefited getting rid.

You are talking about Graham?

Exactly! The worst bit of business Howes ever did giving him to Wire for £80,000.

Short memory, one of the biggest mistakes St Helens ever made, they did not treat him fairly!

Bollox! He spat his dummy out and left the club because he wasn't getting the attention he thought he deserved at the time. He has even stated himself on TV that he 'spat his dummy out'. That is something Saints fans have known all along but it's taken him a while to grow up and admit it himself.
We didn't make a mistake at all. He did. He could have had so many more trophies had he stayed with us! We certainly don't regret his absence because we got Longy instead. Wouldn't have swapped the two at any time.
One day you will have to operate without him, along with some of your other players who are approaching the end of their careers. You will then have to go through what we are going through now. It happens to all teams. It's just our turn at present.

No we won't. (Well we might but probably not as bad) but Longy is, and has always been, a selfish prick. Briers is (now) the model professional and has been for some seasons. I am sure he has imparted a great deal of knowledge onto Myler, Harvey and Gaz. I am sure he will continue to do this season and maybe next (if he is still playing) and then will most likely get a job in club (like cunnigham, radlinski, WAne) and will continue to improve the side.
There was a time when it could easily be argued that Longy was the better choice but it will bite you when you have no one left to pass on knowledge. We have one of the best halves in the country and, unlike SAints, we intend to use every last drop of him.
BTW he probably did spit his dummy out, but no one cares really. We got one of the best British halves ever and you got another. They were both bad boys and at times under achievers. We'll see who finishes the race in one piece though.

Replaced by a better player... tell me how? He was replaced by an overweight alcoholic who within 12 months left for Wakefield! (Bobbie Goulding to all those who only support Saints when they get to a final)

Of course you will. That is, you will have to remodel your team as your older players become too old. Every team has to go through it. Leeds are having to do the same thing. People don't last forever you know!

He was 'replaced' by Sean Long, Bobby was already at the club when Lee replaced him for just 6 games during Bobby's 8 match suspension, Lee scored 1 try and kicked 24 goals before moving to Warrington in the April of 1997 after being left out of the squad for the Challenge cup final which, given Bobby was the club captain and was vastly more experienced, was hardly surprising to most.
Saints duly signed Longy from Widnes in the June to solve their subsequent lack of cover in the halves, he went on to play 11 matches as scrum half and 8 matches as stand off that season yielding a return of 7 tries and 40 goals.
Yes Bobby left in 1998 but it was to Huddersfield not Wakefield and by that point Sean (who is nearly 2 years older than Lee) had proven over 36 games to be a suitable replacement in the halves.
