| Quote: McClennan "They blew us off the park in those opening twenty-five minutes and we didn't recover from that. Potter's post-match comments pretty much summed up the match for us.
"We burned a lot of energy in the first 20 minutes. I wouldn't say it was won or lost then but it certainly contributed. It's hard to pull back a hefty score and against a quality team it makes it double hard.
[i"Even though we did make some breaks, we probably forced a couple of balls and made some uncharacteristic errors. I thought up until 10 minutes from the end we were still in the game. We just needed something to go our way and it didn't happen tonight but I don't want to take anything away from how well Wigan performed."[/i
They will be a formidable outfit next year with Hoffman and Finch in their line up but after that it will be dependent upon who they have following Maguire. NRL clubs are going to be sniffing around him after next year so maybe Shaun Wane will get the job and he is British which means it will probably be a dip in quality for them at some point during his tenure i.e. when the game goes beyond what Maguire taught him.'"
Well said, Potter's comments are spot on really.

39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go
-
Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know

If Wane does take over in a couple of years as you would expect, what would be stopping Wane from going along with the evolution of the sport? You say it like he can't think for himself.
I know it's not the same level but his reserves team were far more dominant than this first team before he probably ever spoke to Maguire.
Wane is a great coach himself. Maguire often states how big an influence people like him and Mark Bitcon have had. Bitcon is the reason the team has been in such good state all year and Wane is the reason our forwards don't look like powerpuff girls anymore.

I think basically what he means is the game evolves in Aus and we follow suit (normally a few years behind). Occasionally a team (Wigan in this case) get a forward thinking/on the ball Aussie coach over who jumps an English team a couple of years ahead of the rest.

save for a few short periods through the game , wigan controlled it
50/50 chance of winning ? yes of course , there was only 2 teams playing KNOCK OFF THE INSULTS CLETUS. Carlos.
we basically did to you what we did to leeds the previous week , but in the end the score did flatter you

You controlled the game and we never looked like winning, however, we did have a couple of chances that we bombed, if we score one of those, its a different game IMO, and we would have been in with a shout of winning the game. It wasn't to be, and we didn't deserve it.

Correct we could and its all pointless now, but the point still stands, if Saints had got one bounce of the ball or took one of those chances, they'd have been well in the game.

We forced more than a couple and the errors weren't uncharacteristic. They've been very characteristic of our whole season. Like I say, deluded.

I saw Wigan's normal game, but with a bit more umph in the first 20. You did the same thing to us at the DW but we had Pryce on board and absorbed it better. We then took our chances when they came, and beat you. This time, we bombed both our chances and so we didn't give ourselves the chance to beat you. Had we taken both those chances, that would have drawn us level with you, and it would have been game on.
Ifs, buts and maybes. We were crap on the night. You were good on the night. There was only ever going to be one winner as a result. But you played the same game you have played all season and in the second half you are always there for the taking as you don't maintain the same intensity. That's simply been the pattern of your game all season. No big deal. It served you well.
