Agreed - the tackle was made only a split second after the ball was offloaded. A penalty was given - anything more would have been harsh and wrong.

He obviously thought Saints were offside for the Foster try, and they were. It should have been a penalty to Wire, however under the current rules it needs to change.
We should look at the last play the ball, in it's entirety. You all know how much I have argued about incorrect play the balls in the past.
However if we do it we need the funding for video technology at all games as in the NRL.'"
The players that got involved in play were onside, so it should have been given regardless of the rule. Wilkin simply got out of the line quicker than the players beside him.
But hey, read all about it.

I agree. It should run from the shout of "held", because whatever follows is part of the next play.
He was too easy-going for me. Graham should have got 10 for bellowing at him, and quite a few Saints were carping. The microphones clearly picked up Graham shouting "f'ing move" to the ref when he was stood two feet away as Wire were about to take a tap. Don't turn into Leeds, please.

The ref was stood in front of him whilst he was trying to defend his line. What would you have said?
The ref's positioning was woeful all night.

Dont know how you could even think that the player was offside - clearly states in the rule book that you need to be 10m from the play the ball, doesnt even mention anything about the position in relation to the referee.
Wilking was 10m away from the play the ball as it was being played - he was also in front of the ref - simply because referees have become lazy and take teams further back than the required 10m doesnt mean that any player infront of him is offside.
If you want to go down the route of either drawing accurate lines on a graphic on the pitch or just ruling when it is a more obvious call (on the goal line) then the only decisions that will be made are try or penalty attack - its certainly not something I want to see in a game.

| I am amazed, what comes around, goes around. We were fortunate with the Foster try, why? Alibert was deciding what rules to use when it suited him all night. If he kept up with the game and the rules, he wouldn't have to go to the VR regarding offside, because, he has been a VR at Leeds against us. Remember the knock on he got wrong. Alibert missed the shepherd by Carvell on the build up to the first Westwood try. He completely missed that one and it was only four yards away from him. Why pick on him? All the Super League refs have been poor this year, but, the Championship refs are alot better. Can we reverse them next season , we get the championship refs and they get the Super League ones.

What about the match changing decision where he gave a ball steal against Ashurst when the ball stayed in Solomona's hands the whole time? That one led directly to a try.

Are you talking about the penalty right on half time? It wasn't even late, never mind going to the bin.
As for Fosters try, technically, he was offside as both feet weren't behind the referee, however, you could disallow every time under the similar circumstances and a penalty should be given near enough every single play the ball, because no player has both feet behind the ref.

Briers was also doing this, he was seen numerous times clearly shouting at the referee, and he got the same punishment as Graham, nothing. Briers shouts at the referee nearly every tackle Saints make.

I'm still amazed that speccies never pick up on refs taking a team back an extra metre when the defence is over eager.

I thought the rule was that the defending line had to be 10m from the play the ball, not where the referee decides to stand.
Alibert takes up position about a metre from one line, the ptb is at least two metres behind the next 10m line. All the Saints players involved in the subsequent play are on side. I don't understand why there was any confusion over this once it went to the VR.
