To be fair there were quite a few Saints fans who were making similar comparisons at the time.
There was one idiot on here (who I seem to remember knew Tyrer from school) couldn't complete a sentence without including the words "Tyrer is going to be a Saints legend".

I was wondering about Ste Tyrer. He is a good player in attack and dreadful in defence. Hopefully, for his sake, he has improved at Celtic.
I just hope he has a successful career at Saints or elsewhere.

I really rate Tyrer highly and hope we can bag him for next season!
His first stint with us he was fantastic and showed some reall class (can tell had been working with Gidley) but his 2nd spell he wasn't match fit and got injured before he had chance too get sorted!
Widnes fans who said he was poor are just thick! Steve Pickersgill started off exactly the same but as he kept playing eh got fit and much better and his signing was heralded!
Dean didn't do alot until he was moved into the 2nd row... when Tyrer signed!
I'd loved to have Ste back at Widnes and tbh those who said he was poor are purely judging on the clouded 2/3 game he had this season after only playing one for Celtic before hand! He still has alot to offer but a lot of pressure at Saints and the lad needs a year or two of 1st team rugby to develop!
