I've seen some strange things in my life, but nothing mystifies more than the fact that Darryl Powell got in the GB team ahead of Tommy God.

I'll never forget Andy Goodway rejecting Tommy for GB on the grounds that his "form isn't good enough" - despite the fact that he had been MoM for Saints three times in his last five games.

That would be Andy Goodway who left out Chris Joynt for Andy Hay, right?

I could never get to grips with the idea of Joynt at prop.

That was Hanly in '94, wasn't it?

Can't remember. But it was a barmy idea. Joynt just didn't have the go-forward in midfield. He was always a wide runner.

Did we have a particular dirth in props? Harrison was the other starter. Where was Andy Platt at that point?

Truth is that we're lucky the Communist Cap is there to protect us.

Saints only average players are-

Gardner
Meli
Wilkin
Gilmour
Hargreaves
Flannery

The rest are all very talented players, most of them internationals, still arguably one of the best teams of all time.

Of those average players, I seriously wouldnt swap any for their wigan counterparts with the exception of maybe Gardner for Richards.

O'Loughlin > Flannery
Carmont > Gilmour
Hock > Wilkin
