I don't think Wigan fans want shut, but it's more to do with the balance of the team.
It's probably more in how we best utilise Tommy. Is he bettter used as a 7 then into the 9 position as interchange with Riddell. McIlorum IMO is still a very good prospect, but will he play third behind Riddell and Tommy.
A lot will depend on what happens to Tim Smith, I believe Wigan are looking at a replacement for him which could also affect McIlorums position, but that maybe for next season.

Paul McShane At Leeds Is A Much Better Prospect...
He Also Has The Advantage Of Learning His Trade Off Danny Buderus & Matt Diskin Compared To McIlorum Who Can Learn From Erm Mark Riddel...

| Did anyone see his try today? Very good dive back over the line when the defenders were thinking the ball would go out wide or something (don't know what they were thinking cos they left a rather large gap for him to dive through).

The only problem was that he didn't get the ball down. Noble was livid, the reference to referees decisions was very quietly made, however on Radio Manchester he was a little less diplomatic.
You didn't get to see the Roberts no try or the O'Loughlin pull back. I don't know if Sky will show them either.
In all the times I've been in the South Stand bar after a game I've never known Phil Veivers to publicly criticise officials the way he did after last Fridays game.

I see McIlorum as a thugish type of player.
Errrrm if you like, a Terry Newton but without any of his skill.

Yes, I picked up on Noble's displeasure at refs on the Super League Show today.
Some belting biff in that match too. Pity the Beeb didn't show all of it!

So if you are to be believed, a cracking prospect is not getting game time due to the signing of Riddell?

He's played 5 out of the 8 games this season, and missed out on one for disciplinary reasons.

So it seems he is getting game time, so why have I read countless posts on cherry&white wanting shut of him? Also, what do you make about the signing of Gleeson, considering he will be 29 when he signs for you. I remember you berating Saints for the signing of Puletua because he was 29. I take it you are dead set against the signing of Martin Glesson and would rather stick with Goulding because he is young?

I'd like to keep Goulding or have him go out on loan. Gleeson would be a decent option as Bailey will probably go at the end of the season and Carmont will probably go the season after.
The only other centre we have coming through at present is Ian Thornley but I don't see him being ready for another two or three seasons. (he still qualifies at U18 academy level).
Saints are in a similar position playing Gilmour at centre
I'll have a look at the new recruits on Saturday at Orrell in the U18 academy first game of the season.
I wouldn't like to put Ainscough, Thornley, Tomkins and Goulding in at the same time too soon.
We tried that a few years back with Brown, Aspinwall, Robinson, Wild etc and it didn't work.

So a 29 year old Gleeson is a decent option, but a 29 year old Puletua (who is doing very very well I may add), isnt a decent option, which is what you said at the time. Wigan blinkers much?
As for putting all the young kids in at once, it worked against us on good firday a few years back!!!

Puletua will be 30 this year in a team that already has quite a few players over the age of 30 in the squad, and yes he is playing well.
Gleeson will be 29 this year on a team that only has two players in the squad currently over the age of 30.
You can get away with putting all the kids in for the odd game, but not for a long period. We tried it and it didn't work for us.
BTW, what's it got to do with Scott Moore, I don't think he plays for Saints or Wigan?

| Moore is contracted at Saints until the end of 2010 - so in theory we could loan him out for another 12 months afer this and still retain him. However, I think KC will do what is right for the club and step aside and let Moore come in alongside Roby.
The only other possible vision of the future I can see is Long retiring, KC staying and Roby playing at half back for 12 months. Dont think we can justify having all 4 of them on the books next year.

Or Slong and the King could go together? But lets face it on this seasons performances/fitness both could easily do another year at least as neither particularly relies on pace. KC's 'd' is still the most fearsome in the league and Longy doesn't even need to touch the ball to contribute massively due to how well he organises us.

its a tough balance to find....if having them both stay for 12 months meant losing Moore for the rest of his career, I would sacrifice one of them and keep Moore on. If we can keep both, get Moore on a long term contract and then loan him out for another 12 months it would seem to be the ideal situation.
