| Quote: (Saint) "Celebrating narrowly beating Saints atm is a bit like celebrating a points decision over an old and frail Muhammad Ali.
You can only beat what's in front of you but I think people from other clubs are getting a bit over-excited about 'beating Saints.' We're one of the worst sides in the comp atm and at our absolute lowest ebb. We'll be back though.
I actually really like Widnes fwiw.'"
We'd just been beaten against Wakefield and Castleford and haven't beat st Helen's in 19 years. This win was massive for both players and fans.
I know your missing two fantastic strike players in Roby and lomax, aswell as others but we have injuries too.
Arguably two of our best players in hanbury and Cahill were missing. Ah van and cross also missed the game, this time last season with these injuries our squad looked really thin. But now, you can see we have some depth and can cope with injuries, unfortunately the same cant be said over the last five weeks for saints.

Sure. But Saints are an awful team. Particularly missing our main strike players.
I wouldn't downplay Widnes' achievement in developing their team and trying to consolidate a SL standard squad. I like Widnes and hope they continue to build. All I would say is that beating Saints is no yardstick atm as we are absolutely terrible.

Warrington has the most passionate fans in RL. Fact.
Challenge Cup WINNERS 2009,2010,2012.
Not living in the 80s like Widnes.: |

Of course Wigan fans will laugh at any defeat for Saints...it's called rivalry.
Widnes fans don't know much about it as they don't have any rivals.
I hear Warrington Wizards are looking for a rivalry though. That might be good news for Widnes Vikings...

Fair enough, I think it showed by the amount of money in widnes that a lot of fans felt that we could beat saints they were playing that bad. You could get 7/1 for a widnes win.
We gave jack Owens a run out which looked to have done him the world of good. You have a very young inexperienced back line at the moment but they are good young players. If you manage to keep hold of them all you will have a very good, prodiminately English team in 2/3 years.

VLV, you are living in the past . That result is history and for us was nothing more than a warm up session & preparation for our annual visit to Wembley & our new found love of Old Trafford.

Before any more nerves get touched on here let's get back on topic.
Where as saints real weaknesses? I know it's a young back line but some of these players have been playing brilliant for you. Is it the senior players or a mix of everything?

That's a bit disrespectful to Widnes.
Just because you had a bit of success a few years ago doesn't mean you will always compete at the top.
This could be your true level in the current era.
Why don't you just acknowledge Widnes played well?

| Quote: Offside Monkey "Some Widnes fans seemed to take offence at our moaning - that it was a slight on their performance. That was the 5TH game we'd lost on the bounce, something I can't remember in my time as a saints fan (nearly 20 years). Of these 5 defeats, only 1 of these has come against a team higher than us in the league table.
I'd suggest it was unwise of Widnes fans to log on to this forum and expect a "Credit to Widnes" vibe.'"
This folks is exactly what happened to the letter.
I think calling us "cack" [iwas[/i a slight on our performance.

As a Widnes fan I'm chuffed to bits after our win over Saints, but not getting carried away. We're still definitely work in progress. Its great for us to enjoy it though after a long time coming and the mauling I had to witness surrounded by Saints fans at LP last season.
I do have an affinity with Saints and so long as its not to the detriment of Widnes, I wish you well. Must be a pain right now but you'll bounce back and give out a chorus of 'You light up my senses' soon enough...

The point is, though, that this here is the Saints board so if we want to call Widnes cack then we are free to call Widnes cack. And so on and so on. If you want to come on to the Saints board then you have no justification for being offended when we call you cack because this here is the Saints board.
See?

I'm not offended. I thought it was bloody hilarious.
This is rlfans. You are free to call Widnes cack. I am free to continue laughing at the bitterness over your fans going through a rare barren spell and spitting their dummy out big style.

I went to the game last week and it was the worst performance (particularly first half) that I can remember from a Saints side for a very long time. It was possibly the worst I've ever seen.
We had no clue whatsoever. We were completely rudderless in the halves with no planned moves apart from lateral passing. The forwards bar Thompson and Walmsley were pathetic. LMS, Puletua, Laffranchi and Perry were lazy and were shown up by a Widnes packed that played with enthusiasm. Our discipline was horrendous again, something that has annoyed me under Brown this season. Our defence on the fringes completely fell to pieces particularly down our left hand side. And to top everything off, there was no urgency or leadership within the side to drive the team forward and make it a fight and counteract it. It was like the team accepted it and nobody in the crowd really believed we would come back and win, something you wouldn't say about previous Saints sides.
The score flattered us in the end and I fear if we'd have played a top 5 side the score would've been heavy (we could find out in a few weeks, although at least Wilkin and Soliola will be back - 2 players who do have a bit of fight in them). Full credit to Widnes, they beat what was in front of them and for their fans it's a great moment, but this current Saints team is a shadow of it's former self and without 3 or 4 key players is extremely weak.

On paper it isn't weak. But it is weak in the head.
