| Wello gives confidence to our line defence which is an intangible benefit.
At the risk of starting another thread, where does Wello finish in Saints' squad sprints?

| For while now there has been some talk of moving Wellens into the pack eg. to loose forward or second row.
That may be all and well but who would we play at full back?
Anyone who plays there needs to have a number of qualities.
One in particular comes to mind -
THE ABILITY TO TAKE THE HIGH BALL UNDER PRESSURE.
When the opposition put up a high ball and the receiver is going to be under pressure.
The question I (and surely many Saints fans) are asking themselves is,
"Which Saints player is under it?"
If it's Wellens then "Blood pressure normal"
If Gardner "Blood pressure somewhat raised"
If Melli then "Blood pressure way too high"
That highlights just one aspect of Wellens play.
Anyone else at full back could seriously damage our health.
Cheers
Ch.

Crabtree is embarassing. He offers as much impact going forward as a cloud.

Wello has a fantastic rugby brain. He can read a game very well. At the moment there is no one else to put there who can read a game like he can.

| The thing with Wello is that he's no worse than he ever was. But now that we have a relatively weak pack and such slow backs, his own lack of pace is amplified massively.
If we had someone like Greenshields at fullback we'd be scoring more than 15 points a week.

Huh? So you're blaming gorgeous Wello for us not being able to score more points? What do you want? Jarryd Hayne?
As others have mentioned, Wello has a great rugby brain and in our transitional season(s) his great rugby brain, his experience, his knowledge and his commitment to the club are vital IMO. We'll just have to forgive his relative lack of pace and hopefully Potter will ensure he is helped out in this respect because his many other talents are much needed.
He had a fantastic game on Saturday and I hope he does so again a week on Saturday.

Spot on pal.
I like wello and has been great for saints. He'd die for saints and that's why he's 1 of my fave saints players but he is just too slow.
I think he can do a job next year, his defence is as good as any fullback in the world, he's safe as houses under the kick but bring very little in attack.
I've always thought pryce would make a very good attacking fullback.

| I have to say I think the importance of an attacking full back is overrated. Sure it's a great thing to have but there are hardly any good attacking full backs that are anywhere near as good as Wllo is defensively and that is the full back's number 1 priority.
It would be great if Wello had more pace but I'd still have him above nearly every other FB in the league. Webb often gets nowhere near a high ball and frequently lets them bounce yet people think he's brilliant because he's quick in attack.
I'd probably only swap him for Greenshields or Briscoe. He knows he's slow and I understand that he asked to move to 13 for this season but was refused because we've nobody to replace him at 1. Pryce doesn't have the concentration and focus required to be a good FB, you can't go missing or drift in and out of the game the way he does if you're full back
