Wigan were not the ONLY full time club. Wigan gave their players full time contracts to try and keep up with Leeds as they were full time before Wigan. Pity other clubs were more interested in spending world record transfer fees instead giving out more full time contracts.

What other clubs where spending world record transfer fees ? Wigan set the record signing Offiah in 1992 for £440,000 then broke it in 2006 signing Fielden for £450,000 so exactly what other clubs were breaking record fees ? We spent big on Newlove and Scully in the 90s but didnt set records and in context of those fees it brought about a peroid of massive success.

How can anyone be envious of historical records? Envy is about wanting what some else has. You cant want some one else's history. Only a fool would think that way. It would be pointless and Saints fans are never pointless. Now wigan could be envious of our future as the could want our players and get them but they could not be envious of our great SL history just like we could not be envious of there pre SL history.
