That's one of the most underwhelming squads I can recall for a long time. The only positive is the introduction of another prospect. I am actually surprised that we haven't looked to the academy for centre/wing. I hate to say it but if Wigan were in the same position they wouldn't think twice about doing so.
A massive drubbing is on the cards for this one and I reckon it's the first time I would consider us as underdogs against the wolfs. Some fall from grace.

| Does anyone have anything to report on this Spedding chap? Seems a strange introduction when the only names I have hear from the academy reports are Wellington/Grace/Richardson/Nzongou. Is Levy still with Saints?

Jake Spedding has played in all the u19 games this season and scored 3 tries. Played in 1 reserve game and scored a try. Doing well by all accounts and must be considered ahead of Wellington and Grace.
Levy Nzongou as also played in all u19 games and 1 reserve fixture, so yes he is still with Saints.

Which is ironic as KC said a few interviews ago Wellington is next in line? Maybe he meant next next in line!
Can anyone explain Leeds interest in Spedding? viewtopic.php?f=17&t=593955

I think he was born in Leeds and is a Leeds United fan, maybe Rhinos. That may have something to do with it.

Didn't they have a 'thing' on their forum a few years back featuring a fictional player called Spedding?

| I just hope he's not another midget of the variety we keep producing from our youth sides, especially in the backs. Eastwood, Lomax, Swift, Wheeler, Makinson, Percival - all very small men by professional rugby standards.
If you look at the top threequarters, apart from the occasional freak like Jason Robinson, you find 6-footers with athletic builds. Our best threequarters of the recent past were the same: Hunte, Sullivan, Albert, Newlove, Lyons, Iro, Gidley etc.
I don't think the diminutive size of the backs we keep producing is unconnected to their dreadful injury records.
Wigan seem to have a production line of lads who are 2-3 inches taller than our equivalents. Is it a genetic St Helens thing? Do they really eat more pies in their formative years?
Hopefully Spedding will be a decent-sized athlete.

How could you ever dis the undoubted talents of Richie Spedding?
He was the best junior player of his generation and without his career ending injury would have been in the same bracket as Paul Sculthorpe and he would have probably been lured to the NRL
Shame on you Saddened for bringing great shame on the Spedding name

| Naaah, not a chance. We'll get hammered.
You've got a very talented side with great threequarters, playing with lots of confidence, versus a side with limited talent, the worst threequarters in the league, and with no confidence at all.
Wire by 20, I'd guess.

| That try was certain from the second Penny caught the ball 10 metres from his line with 60 seconds to go. We are a psychologically soft team.
The forwards have had a dig, to be fair, with Walmsley and Amor having their best games this season. But our threequarters are so much worse than Wire that if the forwards tire and Wire get enough space to move the ball wide, we're screwed.
I'd be happy to be proved wrong, but at this stage a Wire win by 3 scores still seems most likely.
