Incorrect. The first home game for Saints v Wigan after the challenge cup final was a 10-10 draw.

Sorry I worded my post badly, the OP stated the following year which would the 1977-1978 season. But yes, Wigan did win the next game at Saints but I think the game the OP is referring to would be 30 Apr 1977.

| I've many fond memories of Knowsley Road. First time I actually went was the Lancashire Cup final against Warrington in 1987, the weekend after we beat Manly at Central Park.
First game against Saints, though, was a couple of years later - again, the Lancashire Cup Final when Wigan won 5-4. A very dour game if I remember rightly.
I was a kid then, and I always remember that my dad wouldn't take me into the away end, citing poor views, so we instead stood under the old scoreboard at the opposite end.
Even more so, I always remember my dad pretty much refusing to take me to Saints or Warrington games, citing big, aggressive crowds, but in reality, he was probably on a p155 up with his mates.

St Helens 47 - 18 Hull
My abiding memory was a certain Mal Meninga sending up a massive bomb and chasing it. The Hull winger waited for it to come down and, a microsecond after he caught it, Meninga hit him like a freight train at full pelt. The Hull player lay twitching on the floor for some time afterwards. I was hooked.
Remember my first game against wi*an later that season, a midweek game in the Premiership. When we started to run away with the game in the second half, the wi*an fans tried a pitch invasion to get the game stopped. I think that was my first view of police violence up close (for once, I was cheering on the plods)

I remember that Hull game as it was one of my early Saints games.
Watched the highlights the same night as people may recall there was a programme called 'RL Action' that used to be on Granada about 11.00pm on a Friday showing a game from that evening.

| I'm only young, and the first match I remember going to was the Grand Final in 2002 when we beat Bradford at Old Trafford. I remember that my mate was sat like 2 row in front of me and my dad had get off to work so I went back with my friend.
My dad wasn't sure what my first game was though. He said I went to the Grand Final that year and that he said Adrian Lam apparently ripped us apart.

We had a try disallowed for a forward pass if I recall too. We should have won that game, but we had Bernard Dwyer kicking for us! I think he missed at least one. I think that was the biggest crowd on Knowsley Road I have experienced.
My first game was against Australia in the Knowlsey Road Centenary game in 1990. Don't remember anything of the game - i do remember the past players parade before the game (which was the reason for going - my Dad, who followed saints when he was a lad, wanted to see Vol again). I remember that some of the former Saints players got booed (in jest) as they went on to play for Wigan.

I went that game, I think Dwyer was kicking for saints that day and got all saints points.

I wonder what Dean Bell remembers of it.
