| Quote: Dux "Kyle Eastmond is the most exciting product to come out of the Saints youth system for 17 years. Ben Sammutt is a talented lad but is essentially only ever going to be a Luke Dorn-esque journeyman. If he was anywhere near Eastmond's standard he'd still be in the NRL (and probably fielding offers from top RU clubs).
How about we chill out and see what happens?'"
Bingo.

| Can't believe people want Sammut to replace anybody, never mind Eastmond.

| Quote: The Eclipse "You are right about Sammut (Jarrod)
The Panthers released him because he is probably the weakest defensive player playing top level RL, even worse than Tim Smith.
Most English fans wouldn't have seen much of him apart from his try up at Murrayfield last season, yes he can have flashy moments but he is way too inconsistent and way over rated by English fans on the basis of that try.'"
Came in to post pretty much the same as the above. Whenever I've seen him I've noticed his lack of defensive ability over anything else, he really is an awful tackler.

At the moment everything that isn't screwed down is for sale at Crusaders. They are in a financial mess.

Another option is the Wire. Flog him there for £500,000 plus Myler and Harrison. They'd go for it, just for the opportunity to show off.
But what IMO is going to happenUnion for definite
Sean Long -> Saints Loan Next month. Wants to return closer to home, stop gap cover at Saints idealId be very surprised considering he didn't like the 1 year offer he got before he left, also Hull are supposed to be exdending his contract this term.
Jarrud Sammut -> Hull £50,000 Next month. Hull want him, but can't really sign him with Long on the payrollHull can afford him with or without Long on the payroll, the problem is Crusaders might as well pack there bags if the are to sell all there best players. They've made that loud and clear.
NRL random -> Saints 2012.'"
All in all Sammut isn't going anywhere (not for now anyway), plus when/if he does come available im sure Hull will want first dibbs. Besides I think his playing style is all wrong for Saints. IMO of course.
Also a half baked RUMOUR is going around that should Eastmond depart then Saints are preparing an offer for Dobson.

| Like Sammut, Dobson isn't really Saints quality. I would imagine we'd be looking at an international half back for next year if Pryce goes and the new stadium arriving. I remember Millward and Mr Big talking about having a big signing to launch the new stadium but I guess that will depend if the stadium is built in time lol.

You'll need to try harder than that

I don't know I think Dobson would do quite well at Saints, it would take a few games for him and Pryce to gel but I think the rest of the team would benefit from his kicking game. I know he doesn't attack the line like Eastmond or Long in his heyday but he is a strong leader and would marshall the team around the park (which IMO you may miss this season with KC's retirement).

Leon was doing a fair bit of marshalling the team last season and he was totally in command in our friendly against Widnes. Granted, it was a friendly and against a Championship team, but he was clearly organising. Leon also has a long kicking game, including an ability to kick 40/20s. Dobson isn't the same quality as Pryce. We don't need Dobson. We do need Pryce.

I wasn't saying replace Pryce, I mean someone to work with him in the halfs. I can't comment too much on the friendlies (and tend not to look too much into them either, as alot of tactics and player posititions are tried out there which you generally might not see in the regular season).
I know Pryce can marshall a team when called upon but I think he is more of a threat as an attacking player and someone feeding him. As for his kicking game, from what I saw last season I still think Dobson's kicking is far better. IMO of course.

| Pryce's kicking game is a bit hit and hope IMO. If we lose Eastmond we'll need to sign a player with a good kicking game, but I'd be thinking of somebody higher profile than Dobson.

I agree, leon is a hoof and hope kicker. Dobson has a very very good kicking game but he's not good enough.
Sammut shouldn't even be spoke about in the same sentence as saints as he's not good enough.
Not many good number 7s about. If kyle goes it will be tough job getting a goos high profile 7 in to replace him.

Not so at all. He was in charge all last season (when he wasn't injured that is!). When he and Kyle were playing together they were forming a great partnership where both of them were an attacking threat but Leon was the organiser. He was even more so on Sunday and I think that is the role he will take during 2011 no matter who is his no.7.

Leon doesn't have a short kicking game. But he can pull out a 40/20 (did two in one match either in 2010 or 2009, can't remember which) and he kicks great bombs. But he is just a class above Dobson, even if Dobson is a good player.
As for replacing Kyle, if that is what we have to do then I'd like to see what Jonny Lomax can do before we consider going anywhere else.
