Quote: SaintsFan "Geez, our halfbacks were poor tonight. The team totally changed when Gaskell came on. Gasky may make his mistakes and sometimes his kicks don't come off, but I am happy to take all that for all the good stuff he does. He seemed to be a direct replacement for Jones, whose try incidentally should never have been given. At the match I didn't think he'd got it down and watching it back on Sky tonight he didn't. He dropped it.

We were in trouble in the first half as Salford totally dominated us in every respect. It was only because they messed up two clear opportunities (both down the Jones/Meli side) that the scoreline was so close at halftime. (That and the awarding of the Jones try that wasn't!) We were very lucky. However, once Gaskell had come on he caused mayhem with his kicking and pace, and we were able to finish off in style.

The wind was horrendous. One of Makinson's goal kicking attempts blew backwards! Gaskell did a good job with the kicking and it's nice to know he has that string to his bow too. Three goal kickers on the pitch at once. Just a few years ago we had to put up with only Longy and his hit and miss efforts!

Shenton had an excellent game tonight btw.'"

The halfbacks was poor, that's the worst I've seen lomax play in a while. Lance was just lance.

I like jones the more I see him.

Lomax wasn't great and Smith definitely outplayed him. Shenton didn't have an excellent game, but he did ok.

Lots of improvement needed from 1-17 with ball in hand.

I wasn't that impressed by him tonight, I must admit.

I was impressed by Shenton. He showed a lot of what he had at the back end of last season for me. In my top three tonight.

Other standouts were Makinson (as always, obviously!), LMS, Wello in defence (mucked up a bit in attack IMO), Gaskell because he caused all sorts of problems when he came on (why OH WHY isn't he our stand off?!?) and Clough, who made some good yards and was just about our only forward who didn't run sideways. It is SO frustrating to see our forwards run sideways. When did they start doing that? It is just so ineffective.

I'm glad you've seen the light with lance at halfback.

LMS has been outstanding since the day Royce was sacked, I was his biggest critic last year but he's gone up a few gears this and makes a impact off the bench.

He is our best forward - along with Soliola and Roby - and has really improved this season.

He is the only front rower in the team who takes on the defence aggressively

Aggression is the key word, I think he lost his aggression last year which effected his game but he's playing like the player we though wed signed.

You're getting boring with repeating that line over and over so I think you need to quit. I 'saw the light' months ago and said so on here, so please shut up.

LMS, along with Perry, whinged about Royce so it isn't surprising that he is playing well now that Royce has gone. However, he doesn't play well consistently, so he needs to do that before I'll drool over him.

Last season was his first with Saints. He had to step up a few notches after playing with the Broncos. It was no surprise to me that he wasn't playing at the right level last season.

Your getting boring with this same comment about players wanting/getting super Royce sacked and it's getting boring so please shut up.

One man sacked super Royce and he had the backing of 99.9% of saints fans with you being the exception because you liked his first ever interview.

As your looking for another heated debate by coming all over argumentative, I think I'll pass on a argument with you.

You get all giddy when you sense a heated debate.

I'll leave you to it, I'll have a wee, grab bottle water from the fridge and go bed and dream of you.

Sweet dreams my little argumentative flower icon_heartkiss.gif icon_hug.gif icon_kiss.gif icon_cool.gif

I havent seen any replays as I was at the game , the try was right in front of me and looked fine, Jones did really well with alll the Salford attention and changing things around at half time really sparked the team , the wind was appalling which is why a couple of the kicks went out on the full , and Meli did really well in stopping a 40/20 with a nice chase , really good second half

The was only Meli from our back line that didn't score a try last night.

That's possibly because when he did have the chance he faffed.

The wind was terrible. Did you see how Makinson's conversion attempt went backwards? And it picked up in the second half as well.

Meli did do well to stop the 40/20.

I thought it was Gaskell coming on that changed things. That lad should be in the team every week.

(Funny how nobody has mentioned we played with a back on the bench last night! icon_wink.gif )
