| Well played Sam.
Shame the team couldn't win a trophy to make things more memorable for him.

| Think there have been better players than Tomkins this year. He has not been as good or influential this time around. I think it would have been more deserving for Westwood to have got it.

They did, and Wigan also won club of the year at the awards tonight.

What???? No disrespect or anything (genuinely) but you'd have to be a one-eyed loon of the very, very highest order to possibly think Wigan deserve that accolade... Warrington absolutely walk it any day, although you could make an argument for Leeds as well with the WCC win and 2 cup finals. But Wigan come a distant, poor 3rd to either surely... Just staggers me, frankly...
As for MoS - no real arguments with Sam (though he's played a lot less well than last season I reckon overall), although for me Westwood probably shaded it.

...and the point still stands... Enlighten me then - what have you done to be worthy of the accolade then on a CLUB level this season exactly?

Community work such as the launch of "Central Park" teaching and giving opportunities to youngsters (AND adults) in the area educating them not only about Sport but IT, Business, Health & Beauty, Construction, Motoring etc and giving 100s of young people a place to train and learn.
The fantastic effort raising £thousands for Joining Jack, Sport Relief and other charities.
The highest average attendance (I believe).
Large profits for FY11 which are being re-invested into aforementioned "Central Park".
These probably contributed heavily. It's not like the RFL of some desk-jockey muppets voted for us anyway, it's the other clubs that vote.

OK, fair enough. For me though a trophy called "Club of the Year" being awarded alongside the MoS implies that it should be for RL achievements and not community projects, admirable as they undoubtedly are. Maybe they should call it the "Community Outreach Club of the Year" or something

Remember! this is voted for by his fellow professionals! so are you criticising their professional opinion? also Sam got more votes than the other two put together, so that is quite clear, well done Sam and also to the other two players nominated!

| I only caught the back-end of the fall out from this announcement on twitter last night, but I'm sure someone said that the Hull KR players weren't given a vote? Ben Galea was tweeting about it I think...
Let's hope (if this is true) Sam won by a wide margin!

| Roby not selected for England. He's resting. Roby has been carrying a hand injury for past month.

I seem to remember the Wigan fans thinking not when we won it 4 years on the trot.

You're right. The fact that he's the best player in the league by some way and has carried an average team to the top of the league and 2 cup semis pales into insignificance compared to the fact that he's also a bit of a git. We should rename the award the "Man of Steel but with a nice soft edge to go with it too".
