As before Starting 1-10 plus Mose and LMS is easy, its the backrow and subs where it gets complicated

The new young dynasty of super saints is coming to a ground near you. Welsby-Dodd-Simms-Eaves-Rizzelli, not Eastmond...the future is coming.:Dwarfs, Gnomes, Halflings/GNOME2.JPG

Sav and Big Joe might take the advantage over Richards and Thompson if KC is pushing all his young guns for starting positions.
If it works out that way we are a massive mobile pack.

Would you go with somebody like Savelio over Thompson or is that just what you think might happen? For me, Thompson was close to MOM in last years Grand Final and played at a good consistent level all year.

If KC gives Sav a lot more game time then in my opinion he would become a better all round player. I like Thompson, agressive in defence and always giving 100%, but we need variety in the pack who can tackle bust and offload, Sav and Big Joe can do that which would trouble any opposition defence similar to what Manu did for us.

Flanagan instead of Hohaia is the only change that I would make.

Before the pre-season I had Vea down as an impact bench forward, but it sounds from reports as though he's going to be more of a long-minutes grafter. This, coupled with the rise of Joe Greenwood, creates a problem in the back row (albeit a nice one to have). I'm still keen on seeing LMS played as a wide-running back rower, but the way things are going I think he'd have to spell that with stints at prop/13. The backs still pretty much pick themselves.

Quote: BackrowSaint "So after our two main pre season games, what would be your team to start against Catalans? Assume everybody is fit and it will be interesting to see if there's been any changes!

1. Jonny Lomax
2. Tommy Makinson
17. Mark Percival
3. Jordan Turner
5. Adam Swift

6. Travis Burns
7. Luke Walsh

10. Kyle Amor
9. James Roby
14. Alex Walmsley
11. Atelea Vea
21. Joe Greenwood
12. Jon Wilkin

16. Lance Hohaia
8. Mose Masoe
13. LMS
18. Luke Thompson

If Jon Wilkin wasn't captain he'd possibly not be in my 17, due to the performaces of Joe Greenwood I feel he's earned a starting spot, which pushes Wilkin to loose. Another option would be Vea on the bench with LMS/Thompson to start at loose or Vea to start at loose.'"

The only slight change I would make is switching Vea and Wilkin. I think Vea will suit the middle channel more which allows Wilkin to play his favoured left channel (where I think he is strongest) and Greenwood on the right.

I'd be happy with this team v Catalans:

Lomax
Makinson
Percival
Turner
Swift
Burns
Walsh
Walmsley
Roby
Amor
Greenwood
Wilkin
Vea/Thompson

Vea/Thompson
Masoe
LMS
Hohaia

Wellens, Dawson, Richards, Savelio, Flanagan, Jones next in line.

Pass us the trophy now. icon_wink.gif

Yep I'd go with that. The likes of Dawson, wello and flash ain't what you'd want in your 17 but great players to have as squad players.

You then have Richards, sav and jones all knocking on KC door asking for a game.

Yip pretty much spot on there for the opening game, i'd possibly put LMS at loose but hey ho good squad that.
Wilkin although our Captain needs to up his game as other players in his position are right behind him.

Wilkin's going to make 45 tackles a game. That graft will be essential when we've so many big players in the pack.

I like a few combinations if I'm honest. However, I'd settle on this team.

Lomax
Makinson
Turner
Percival
Swift
Burns
Walsh
Amor
Roby
Walmsley
Wilkin
Vea
Thompson

LMS
Masoe
Richards
Savelio/Greenwood

I like Percival with Swift, they're an excellent combination. I see no reason to change something that isn't broken. Furthermore, Turner's footwork is right to left so he's suited to that right side. I don't rate Turner all that much at all but I definitely don't fancy him as a left centre,

Not convinced with the whole shenanigans of having Hohaia or Wellens on the bench. Rotate them properly through the season. Rest players completely and give them games. Roby should be able to rested a few games this year where we could put Lance in at nine. For me, a utility man on the bench weakens your 17. Four forwards to keep pounding teams and Saints will be absolutely formidable. The prospect of Amor, Walmsley, Thompson, Masoe, Richards and Savelio playing the middle channel is mouthwatering.

Wilkin, Vea, LMS and Greenwood playing the wider channels are four quality options as well.

Obviously, we'll mix and match through the year. I think we're in a situation where you can go 'horses for courses' a lot. It's a strong group we have that should compete on all fronts. Let's hope we have a good year injury wise as well.
