| Quote: Albion "Hope he gets one...but I'm not sure what to make of this news story really
That suggests that in April they hadn't mentioned renewing his deal. Potentially that was due to negotiations with Manu and/or the confusion over our coaching system. I think he's one of those players who were he to be willing to accept low wages would always get a new deal, but if he starts wanting wages appropriate for a 150+ game veteran, then he becomes less essential.

I know this was a few months ago, but if a player goes public then it can't be that positive really.
I know Widnes fans have been talking about him.

| My opinion he is not quite good enough would sooner have kept the likes of Bryn Hargreaves or Jake Emmitt. Cloughy solid enough of a player but does not have an off loading game or fast play the ball to cause uncertaintity to the opposition.
I,ve been waiting years for him to go up a level, but I don,t think it will happen.

| If we let him go we can add another name to the list of godawful recruitment decisions of recent years.

| We should have kept emmitt and let clough go. He's not good enough against the good teams but does ok against the not so good.

| If these forums went back about 4 years you'd be able to see the likes of chair, McLennan and that dude who stole everyone cash on the all gold shirts declare he was going to be the best prop gb has ever produced just because he had the same build as Andy platt and also started out as a second rower. Thankfully those of us with a bit more knowledge could see he would be, at best a useful squad player

It depends what he's asking for. If he's after the money an established first team prop can command, his value is massively reduced. I'm sure everyone can see value in having Clough around as a squad player, but if he's asking for a lot of money, it might not be possible.

| Paul Clough is a very good player. He makes bucket loads of yards and very few errors.
He was one of the best players on the pitch against Warrington the other week.
He's a much better player for us than Hargreaves was.
We should be trying to resign him, but he's no superstar and if someone like widnes are looking for a solid prop, they may be willing to pay more than we would for a bench player.
I want to keep him and hope we can come to a deal.

| Clough has done OK this year. He's always willing to take the ball forward and whilst he's no world beater he does a solid job. I imagine he'll be on a relatively low salary and if so, he's well worth keeping as a squad player. He's like our new Mike Bennett - very reliable but doesn't do anything special. He's not a concern for me, it's those earning the big bucks (some quota players) who aren't pulling their weight and giving us value who we should be more concerned about.

| always come across as a good squad player - not every member of the squad needs to be a world beater.

That's how I regard him. It would be a mistake to think he can be replaced by youngsters at this stage, none of them have had enough experience playing 1st team yet.

He's not a world beater, but he can play well against the good sides, which is a valuable quality.

But if he's asking for a big jump in salary, say the same money as LMS or Laffranchi. Would you give him it?

Completely agree. He's just starting to get into his peak years and I think that's starting to show now. In the past he seemed to make more yards rotating in tackle to etch out the extra bits. Now he looks like he can carry defenders backwards as well which I haven't seen before. Some credit must go to the coaching staff because the way a lot of the forwards have been running the ball in the years has been great e.g. LMS.
