| Regardless of the size of the win today, the win has put a bit of distance between us and those outside the top 4. It's not much breathing room but it is breathing room, in fact apart from the Wigan score, nearly every result this weekend has been good for Saints league position.
Which brings up the funny question of tomorrow. Who would we rather win Catalan or Warrington. In a way I would rather Catalan win. It would then put the chance of us breaking into the top 3 in our own hands, as it would leave us a point behind Warrington.
I think 4th is possibly the worst finishing spot in the playoffs with Wigan likely to win the league. Were as 2nd or 3rd or fifth would give a much easier run of games.

| I'd like Catalans to win - would be nice to have a real run at second spot.

| If Carlsberg did Super LEague results, Catalans to beat Warrington, Hull to beat Catalans, then us to beat Catalans would do nicely for me!!

| I agree, a Catalan win tonight opens it up big time, but Saints will have to win in Catalan and beat Wire at home to have any chance of 2nd place.
I'd say 3rd place in realistic rather than 2nd.
But TBH, I'd rather wire win tonight, then Catalan win their game in hand this weekend v Hull, a top 3 spot is still in Saints hands, if we then beat Catalan away the week after, and its a big if, then that will put us into 3rd outright, we'll still be 3 points behind Wire, with them still to come to LP. Plus if Wire get to Wembley again, the TS may just rest a few leading up to the cup final, plus the week after they play us, they play Wigan.
At the end of the year 2nd or 3rd place finish for us and who know OT may be a realistic target once again!?!?
Could you stand losing another? I'm not sure I can!!!

Would rather get there and lose than go out of the play-offs with a whimper.

Not a big job, certainly not out of the question.

| Makes the millenium fixtures even more ridiculous & renders the league table as just a pre qualification for the playoffs. Needs to be looked at again.

| The best idea ive seen banded about is reduce league to twelve clubs to stop competition being diluted, do away with extra fixture & bring back Lancashire v Yorkshire series with a clear break to league format. Money inc gate receipts & sponsorship shared between clubs.

| A Catalans win tonight is what we should want. If that happens, and we beat them in the South of France, we will be in a great position going into the Warrington fixture.

I'm getting a bit sick of reading the same stuff in every thread...nothing will change until the TV deal is up...there are numerous other threads that discuss this...

| Saints have took some stick this year off the fans (me included) but I think they deserve some credit after our current good run, I think we've only lost two league games in last 13 which is cup winning form.
People forget, we've done this without a reconisied coach. Rush and KC are novices at first grade super league which makes our run even better.
I know we've been poor in some games but the main thing, we are winning tho and that is what matters the most.
The next few games will make or break our push for top 3 spot with Catalan and wolves coming up.

| We are fortunate that teams around us have lost form recently, our wins have not been spectacular and can we really say we have hit top form. I,ve yet to see us play good consistently for a full 80 mins.
Our half back options is our weakest link and could be our downfall when we get to the games that matter in the play offs. We could get hammered by Wigan, Warrington or Catalans, Rush and Cunningham still need to do a lot of work tactically on how to work around it as we are running out of time.

In it to win it. Hoping to avoid the final as we think we might lose again is a cowardly approach, and one I'm sure the players don't share. They'll be desperate to get there and give it another crack.

Totally agree. I can't stand hearing our own fans say that they don't want to get to the Grand Final. It's ridiculous.
