Im interested to see who Saints fans want to see win on Saturday, with both Wigan and St Helens recent rivalries with Warrington it'll be interesting to see. There seems to be a mutual respect between Wigan and St Helens nowadays where as its more of a dislike towards Warrington by both clubs. Wigan Saints is still THE derby, that I have no doubt, but do Saints fans take more a disliking to Warrington??

To be fair, its which we can stomach more.

Wigan are our fiercest rival and no amount of "mutual respect" makes it easy to see at the top of their game. They're current champions and are probably favourites to retain the league. If they won the CC as well then they would have the makings of a new dynasty, which would be a miserable sight for Saints fans.

However

Wire fans are becoming increasing arrogant on the back of reletively little. Two challenge cups are nice to have, but no-one really considers it in the same breath as league champions. Having them not win any more trophies mean that we can keep them in their box a bit better. Wigan have won the league, so already have a pretty bulletproof argument about their superiority.

So, if these guys have to take home the trophies, I'd want Wire for the CC and Wigan for the League.
Good god, it's like Sophie's choice.

Wire for me too. I don't care about the attitude of some of their fans. I don't want Wigan winning anything!

Good post.

Personally, id take Saints over Wire any day of the week, in any situation, and nearly every Wigan fan I know would these days, mainly because of your points above regarding there new born attitude.

I want Warrington to win, without any hesitation whatsoever.

It's an interesting debate though, and I think in alot of cases it will depend on how long people have supported Saints. Anybody who had to endure the smug arrogance of the Wigan fans during the early 90's will find it hard to want them to win any game, regardless of opposition. This includes WCC games against Aussie opposition. Unless Saints were directly affected by the outcome, its hard to envisage any scenario in which I would want Wigan to win.

This is not an attempt to rile any Wigan fans, just me being honest.

Is it possible for both sides to lose?

Either way it comes down to who I think we'd stand the best chance against if we get through and meet them in the next round.

Is this a genuine question?

Wire to win both upcoming games without a moment's hesitation.

Yes their fans are extraordinarily irritating. But this is WIGAN we're talking about. Two years of Wire arrogance compared to a lifetime of being brought up to despise the old enemy and everything nthey stand for icon_biggrin.gif

That's more like it. icon_biggrin.gif

My mate Jimmy reckons if Saints were playing for his life he'd still want them to lose.

I started supporting Saints in '93 after Dux came home from the Premiership Final and was telling me all about it, then started showing me videas of matches etc, I started attending matches shortly after including Boxing Day '93 when we got trounced. That means that my first couple of seasons were under Eric Huhges, who never mananged a single victory over Wigan - so I had to wait until Superleague 1 and shaun McCrae to even get a victory over those os.

I want Wigan to win. Most people I know are Warrington fans and they're unbearable enough as it is. Also, being in the same situation with both sets of fans (having just been smashed at Widnes and having to share a platform and train with them all), I just got insulted by every Wire fan that I came close to, the Wiganers just wanted to talk about the rugby and were all round classier in victory.
