| 1 - There are suggestions that Saints had two separate sets with 7 tackles, one being the last set that Meli scored the winner from and that Cas had two with 5 tackles, including the one where Mathers waltzed into the tackle on the 40. These suggestions come from both Cas fans and also BBC radio. It's always a big controversy when it happens once in a game, so for four miscounts in the same game the ref needs to be hung, drawn and quartered surely?
2 - Tom Armstrong's second try. They didn't show this on Sky Sports News that I could see tonight but it appeared from 75 metres away that Sia dropped the ball then just picked it up and tossed it to Armstrong expecting a knock on to be given. Armstrong then scores. The referee clearly saw it happen as he held time up to discuss the weather with both the touch judge and in goal judge. What happened here?

1 - no one seemed to notice anything amiss with the tackle count, but we did notice a cas player going nowhere at one stage in the first half where they didn't seem to realise it was the last count.
2 - no problem with the try. Sia had the ball facing away from the cas line towards his team with a sort of "who wants it" look and holding the ball up as if to off load. It was then knocked out of his hands by a cas player, then there was a frozen moment before we reacted to it first and the ball was whipped out another metre to Armstrong to score (who despite another thread suggesting otherwise) had a great game considering how he was thrust into an unfamiliar position at the last minute.
Anyone know how Makinson is?

| I was sat in the north stand directly in front of the incident which led to Armstrongs try.
Soliola had his back to the try line and dropped the ball backwards. It landed on its point and bounced forwards when Armstrong picked it up and scored.
The ref went to the ingoal touch judge who said the initial movement was backwards then the ball bounced forwards, so the ref gave the try.

| The tackle count was wiped clean for our final try as they played at Scott Moore's kick.

Never let the facts get in the way of a cracking excuse for losing

| I did notice a Cas player (Mathers as mentioned above) just accepting the tackle and then arguing with the ref when he realised it was the turnover. I didn't take any notice as to whether the ref had his arm up to signal the last tackle or not.

| With the Mathers one - I was counting the tackles down myself and it was the last. The problem was Cas had played the ball before Bentham raised his arm. It was a late call and their players had reason to be angry.

But the guys on the Cas forum reckon BBC radio confirmed there had been four miscounted sets 2 for Saints with 7 and 2 for Cas with 5. Not signalling the last properly is not the same thing.

This happened 3 times in the Wire V Hull game on Monday too.
Obviously Cummings needs to get the abacus out.

The point I was trying to make is that IMO Bentham got the tackle count right, he was just very late in letting the players know.
I doubt very much that the commentary team keep a note of tackle counts. Sounds like a guessing game to me. Don't forget from a knock on that becomes a zero tackle, hence 7 tackles in that set. If the commentators have not picked this up could that be a cause for confusion?

| after watching the game back cas confirmed that 3 times cas only got 5 tackles while saints had 2 sets with 7 tackles including the match winning try which gives cas every right to feel aggrieved by bentham and thats not even mentioning the soliola knock on.
