We have rules in place to protect players from irresponsibility. Or would you reintroduce the cumberland throw or say that players should be free to freely thump their opposition around the head or upend them on their necks?

Get real, Pete. Doing what Hoffman did may indeed have been adjudged to be legal but in another match he would have been sinbinned. Because what he did was irresponsible, not sporting.

I think any honest rugby league player will say that's what happens in rugby. He didn't mean to do it, he didn't attack his shoulder and IMO from how I saw it, he was committed.

Now if he'd gone out to injure him or it was clear cut he was late then fair enough but it's a 50/50 call in that type of tackle.

Im sure some saddo will have timed how long the ball had gone before he hit him.

Sorry, but I think you are on your own with this (not that it matters). Hoffman was very late but not malicious IMO.
A player kicking is not able to defend himself, so only a charge down type challenge should be allowed; everything else is a pen.

The Hoffman tackle was no later than the one on Richards in the last three minutes. A fantastic game today, played in great spirit with a ref who wasn't too picky who let the game flow. A draw would have been a fair result.
